I had a Sprint card for my laptop, so I can sit in traffic and give you guys shit....ok, kidding, but it was great, worked well.

I got a new laptop and it did not have the PCI CIA card, it had PCI Express.

So now I needed a new card. I go to Sprint and they said "fine, $250 please". I explained to them I can go to Verizon and get the same card free. Asked them the value of keeping me as a customer. They said nothing.

So, I get on my phone can call Sprint since they would do nothing in the store. They came down to $150. I said..."Let me get this straight, it's $150 for the new card, or $150 to cancel the contract? They said yes. I said fine, then cancel the card.

It is my position that I should not pay the $150 (weak I know) since it's not my problem that they could not offer a reasonable solution to access their service. Plus, I felt like I was being blackmailed into keeping the service, which was the bigger issue.

I went to Verizon and got a new one, and truthfully, I think the Sprint was a bit faster.

So now they have a collection agency sending letters. I have no reason to seek credit, I have a mid-high 700 credit score. But I hate getting the junk mail.

Anything I can do to put this to rest short of writing them a check?

If you had a contract, and that was part of the terms of contract, then pay the bill. It costs them to offer promos and to sign up new customers. Sticking you with a contract is how they ensure they recoup that. I bet the card you currently have was free with signing up.

I can't see any way to justifying not paying.

Just a few points:

(1) If you canceled the contract early, then they're right in trying to collect and (IMHO) you should pay the amount

(2) If they're in collection already, then you're bring us into this 60+ days after the fact.

(3) The company and collection agency have every right to try and recoup the money, but they must obide by the state and Federal laws governing collection. I don't know about your state level, but the Federal one is the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

Pretty much they can send you letters all they want. You might want to call Sprint or the collection agency and see if they'll settle for a lower amount.

After all, it was you that changed PC, and you that got a PC that wasn't compatible with your existing hardware.

In this case, I can't see where Sprint was at fault.

For a second there I was wondering how you financed the new engine.

That $uck$ dude.

I tried an internet card, AT&T, but I took my laptop into the store.
When it didn't work, no harm, no foul, no bill.

Yeah, I guess I'll just right the check.

The thing that pissed me off is they wanted $250 for the new card. They could have worked it out. I would have paid $50, but not $250.

You can't buy a card elsewhere for cheaper and then have it assigned to that account?

Sort of like you could do with a cell phone or a cable modem?

Yeah collections suck. Just went through a much larger thing recently. I bet that you can work with them and get the ammount reduced. Most of the time they can reduce the ammount by 50 percent or so.
