Wow, that is impressive. I wonder how much it would cost to build one? Pick up a $2,500 C4 and have some alternative fun. I don't think I could give up my gas burner but that would be a fun side project. I saw an electric Cobra on Supercars Exposed and that one really moved out, but cost like 150K. Neat video.

That's one race. They can't do distance or multiple races.

12 second 1/4 mile is pretty impressive.

That's a little rocket. What a fun commuter car that would be.

A few observations:

1. The car is not zero emissions. The lead acid batteries will emit a touch of hydrogen, the motor will emit some ozone. Then there is charging...

2. The power grid will not support a large number of electrics.

3. This to me is how the electric fits in:
-- a. Solar systems can recharge these cars overnight off their own internal batteries.
-- b. Electric cars are for local commuting; not cross country drives. Until batteries or fuel cells come along that can go more than 100 miles on a charge.

4. Torque... I am guess that motor is putting out 600 ft-lbs. At least.

5. An electric drag car showed up on Pass Time a few weeks back. I don't remember his times, but they were competitive with that old Datsun.

Finally, I give the guy major props for inventiveness. I would never discourage his research; it's forward thinkers like him who will help our future. More power to him. I just wish he wouldn't forget the emissions that are generated...

That C6 driver sucks.

I'm guessing it drives the rear end directly, without a transmission.

In which case, you have to compare the torque output to a gas engine with gear behind it.

I highly doubt there is a "transmission" but I wouldn't be surprised if there is a gearbox...
