Horseshit.

LCDs and even plasmas use less power than the same size CRT (tube) TV. (Not to mention much less harmful to the environment).

Power consumption is higher only because the TVs are so damn huge.

Maybe the government should come into our houses and measure our TVs and tax us based on that.

And gee, I wonder who's spending all the big bucks to scare us with this digital cable b.s. Probably 1% of the population has analog TVs, but the electronics giants and cable companies would rather make everyone think they have to run to the store and buy a new 40" flatscreen or else they'll be in the dark.

There is a catch here. The state imposed mandate will save us $18 bucks a year. Then the state comes forward and taxes your savings. What the hell, you don't need that money anymore anyhow.

All in the name of green. Ahhhh, Don't we feel better now?

hm... I find that all a pile a crap.

CRT's are serious power pigs. It just doesn't make any sense.

Our electric bill hasn't budged to speak of since we got the LCD.

I am ignoring that comment.

We watch a ton of football in Dec and Jan (both college and pro) and the power bill doesn't change.

I disagree with their assertion.

$60-$70 per year, or $5-6 per month, for 8 hours of use EVERY DAY on a 40" LCD.

That's 2.5 cents per hour that it's on. Compare that to the money spent on a gym membership to burn off all the fat accumulated while sitting in front of the boob tube.
