Well,

My insurance bill for the C6 just came for this year. They bumbled this one up big time. The C4 I had was registered "upstate." (cheaper) Since then we moved back downstate where I currently reside. I told them of the change in address, but they never recalculated my insurance on the C4 so I continued to pay for what I thought was the bill for where I am currently living, but in fact it was the bill for where I used to live. When I asked for a quote for the C6 I was told it would be $1750 a year; what I would later find was calculated at the upstate rate. Expensive, but manageable. After two months of having the vehicle I received a call that my premium was going up because of the address change. Not only do I owe them for the next six months but also for the past 2 months.

My new premium is $2700 a year. That is completely unacceptable + the past two months of back insurance dues. Comes to somewhere around $3000. NO WAY...

I did a Esurance quote online and it came to $740 for six months. That is much better, but shortly after I found out Esurance is not a great company. I also did a Guyco insurance quote... it was about the same as esurance.

I currently have State Farm. Anybody have any suggestions on what company i should go with. I need a happy medium somewhere between price and quality of services. The car is pretty much brand new, and if it gets jacked I want to be compensated for the full amounts.

I have a clean license and so does my girlfriend. No accidents, DUI's, tickets....

I haven't shopped around for quite a while, probably should. I have Allstate - they are the biggest insurer in our state, and there's no deductible if I have an accident with another person insured by them (as the car is spinning, I'll be on the lookout for somebody with an Allstate sticker - LMAO). For my C4, I pay something like $550/year (including the storage months).

Talk to your agent. that's what they are there for.

You have a good driving record, right? Any defensive driving classes available? What are your coverages like?

I have State Farm... and we pay about 1700 a year for my 92 Vette, a Jeep, personal property (Rolex, Nikon D200, 2 laptops), rental insurance and a life insurance policy.

Do you have ALL your insurance with SF? You get serious discounts with them.

I would never us Gieco. They are hard asses... the first claim/wreck/ticket, forget it.

We have Mercury out here, too, and they have a good rep...

I have 100/300 coverage... 500 deductible on both comprehensive and collision... glass coverage..

My other cars are through state farm.

I have a clean driving record, but I am under 25 and not married. I get a good student discount even though I am not currently a student. I need to take the defensive driving course. Chances are the insurance will be under my girlfriend, I am sure she will be driving it most of the time. She has the same driving credentials. We both need to take that safe driving course still. But that's only a 5% reduction if I remember correctly.

I was thinking about Allstate.... My friend has Travelers Insurance and seems to like it. I also need to contact Nationwide... they gave me another good online quote. Any experiences with those other two companies?

I can't see state farm going back down to $1600-1800

The course should knock a few bucks off, and once you hit 25 it should drop quite a bit, too. In my next reincarnation, I'm gonna have a C6 before I'm 25 ;-)

The good student discount will run out...

When do you turn 25? I watched my rates go from $1200 a year to $500 a year by just having a birthday.

You can also get married... that really helps...

Hey Andy,

Can you tell me anything more about Mercury Auto Insurance. How have your experiences been with them so far? I looked into it; they don't offer insurance all over the county, but two of the places they offer it is New York and California. They gave me a REALLY good Quote so I would like to find out more about their reputation.

I have my house with Allstate and my cars with State Farm. You can get a reduction on insurance from State Farm for low use vehicles less than 7500 miles a year, plus you may qualify for a multi vehicle discount. If you up your deductable limits it may also save you some cash. I was recently solicitted by Mercury Insurance. I'd like to hear about them too.

Well Dan, I use Allstate. I ASSumed you were over 25 so the rates shocked me at first. I'm over 25 and married along with all of my insurance stuff with them and I have a good rate. And they have good coverage. I would avoid geico based on talking to my friends who had body shops. I remember them fixing a ford escort one time....9,000 repair bill for a car worth 6,000. And they said that was consistent with them.

Keep us posted.

Nope, I'm under 25. I was under the impression you were in your late 20's?

My Impala is not that expensive to insure. We share the Corvette and Monte Carlo. I paid for the first vette and half the second, and half the cost of the third.

I try to be smart when purchasing a vehicle. I like my SS; it falls into the "old man" category. It's a 4 door family sedan, (hopefully someday will have a stroker ). As far as the insurance is concerned though my cars are very modest. The Monte has the most basic coverage available even though its a sports coupe. BUT my girlfriend needs the flashy Corvette... I'm not going to lie, after I was conviced to purchase the first one (C3) I was hooked, bad. Vettes are like a cocaine addiction. I am glad I don't have a cocain addiction, because I would never be able to afford it all.

I agree totally,

but, accidents are called accidents, because they happen, by accident. I just want to make sure we are thoroughly covered. I do not own a home, so this is the most expensive investment we have currently.

And remember, age is just a state of mind. I may as well be 60. I spend my nights on here while all my friends are out clubbing. But I guess that's the price you pay for having nice toys instead (no complaints here); thankfully I am always in good company!!!

Good Night Guys,

Dan
