The license plate bulb that illuminates the plate on the back of the car. 1986 vette....I believe there is only one bulb up there. I didn't look. It's burnt out and I got a warning tonight. Need the part # so I can get a new bulb tomorrow. I can't afford a ticket for something so simple to replace. Thanks in advance.

It will be in your owner's manual if you have it. Also the parts store should be able to look it up by application. Or you could just remove the old one before you go to get it.

Yup I would just remove it and take it to the parts store. Its the easiest thing to do.

I can't believe that an '84 would be any different. My FSM says it is a #194. The same as the spare tire and side marker lamps, front and rear and many of the warning lamps in the IP.

RACE ON!!!

194 is very very common. I've never changed mine, but it's used in other places on the car.

I wouldn't just go bulb-matching. There are many bulbs with the same exact appearance that have different wattages.

You don't want to melt any plastic. GM already fubar'd the bulb sizing to begin with, you don't want to make it worse.

I thought most bulbs are marked. The put a colored dot either on the bulb or the screw part. Anyway, you might look to see if they make that size in LED. That would fix the melting problem.
