I've posted this in a couple different spots, but I think it deserves it's own post.

See the whole comparison thus far here:

http://www.corvette-guru.com/modules/ ... php?topic_id=7225&forum=1

I got the information regarding the testing of my TFS 195 CC heads. Here's the E-mail I got from the shop:

Hi Josh,

They did arrive and I already have a bunch of information for you.

First off they are 100% ported, not just a bowl cleanup like you had alluded to. Guides are narrowed and necked downed nicely and this head had been ported from one end to the other. I might add it was done by someone who looked like they knew what they were doing and had a very neat hand (the walls were straight and the overall execution was certainly above average). The porting might not have been as obvious to you because the heads were glass-beaded when they were freshened disguising some of the finish sandroll marks that are clearly evident when you look closely.

Finished intake port volume 205 cc’s

Intake Flow

.200 @ 140
.300 @ 200
.400 @ 245
.500 @ 274
.550 @ 280
.600 @ 282

Exhaust port finished volume 76 cc’s

.200 @ 108
.300 @ 144
.400 @ 176
.500 @ 190
.600 @ 204

Combustion chamber volume is very small @ 57 cc’s (just under actually like 56.8 actually)

The TFS heads are much better heads than I thought, so it will definitely make this an interesting test. The idea of AFR winning by a landslide doesn't seem as likely to me now as it did a couple weeks ago.

Time will tell. The short block is in the car as of tonight, so the project is moving along.

Thanks for sharing Josh....

Why would somebody try to hide the porting work they did on the cylinder heads ? Seems like a silly waste of time.... its not like anybody will check once they're on the motor....

I don't think anyone was trying to hide anything. I bought the heads used, and before installing them I had them freshened by a shop. I never saw the heads before the bead blasting.

Thanks again for doing the test. Looks like a set of well ported Trickflows against out of the box AFR's. It is going to be an interesting dyno test.

I've hidden lots of port work...

There is a cottage industry built on porting heads with acid and/or shot peening hand port work (afterwards) to make them look "as cast" in the oval track and NHRA/IHRA Stock Eliminator world.

I know neither is something someone would use a set of TFS heads on but still you never know.... When I first started out with acid porting and other cover up work, I practiced on all kinds of stock SBC and SBF heads we had laying around the shop.

Some of those heads I experimented on ended up in truck and van motors we were contracted to build for a funiture moving business. I keep thinking that one day someone is going to take one of those motors apart and wonder how in the heck a set of stock looking SBC 882 smog heads have 185cc intake runers.....

-Josh
With numbers like that, you have a pretty darn good set of TFS heads. As long as the air speed isn't out of wack anywhere they will most likely give the AFR's a good run for their money on the dyno.

Yeah, I had no idea the TFS heads were what they are. When I bought them I got a receipt from the previous owner that said:

"Gasket match / Chamber clean - $300."

I guess the previous owner got a good deal.
