Love them? Hate them? Would you own one? Post a favorite. I think if the price was right I might own one. I hate faking people out though. I'd tell everyone it was a kit car.

I am partial to some of the Porsche racer kits... but I suspect a Cobra Daytona Coupe is right up there with a fave.

I simply don't fit into a Cobra, so I doubt I would fit into the Coupe, either.

At least one of the Cobra kit manufacturers makes a larger than life vehicle for regular size humans.

Very common though.

That wasn't part of the question, man!

How about a Kellmark GT? I think it was a VW based Ford GT 40 kit.

I would own one, wouldn't build one but, I don't hate them (except for anything VW based).
Some are crap, some are high quality like the superformance cobras & GT40s. I've driven their cobras on the track.

When you look at the cost and what you could be driving for the same money??????????

Kit cars from the 60's - 90's are basically garbage. Everything was a poor fit, nothing seemed to work right on the parts they supplied. Major headaches. No when you look at the Ultima kits, Factory Five stuff, it's all state of the art tech doing the designing and building. They are much better.

I think the only one I would like to do would be the GTM

As far as the kit Cobra and the real ones at that, I find them to be utter garbage. I do not see how anybody thinks they are fun to drive after about ten minutes. After driving a couple it has satisfied all my curiosity about them enough to never want to own or drive another.

Yea, I agree. The Cobra i drove was fun and noisy for about 10 minutes.
Looking at the dollars that a nice kit costs to build, there's a lot of cars I'd rather buy and drive or mod.

Jim is a great guy and as we found out a pretty good driver. He is the head of R&D at FFR. He is a suspension guru and resposible for the new Hot Rod and the body on the GTM.

I agree, they seemed to be much more relaxed and having fun as well. Paul and I tried to pop them in line fast so they didn’t have to sit in the pouring rain any longer than necessary.

What’s more impressive is Jim Schenck with a run at 88.188--- this would have won if only afternoon runs counted! His 88.188 would have been FTD (clean!). Those can’t be easy to drive in those conditions, we all would look like whiners giving anything but respect. He beat the WRX’s in seriously wet conditions---

Well Done:
88.188 Jim Schenck
89.259 John George

I have to say.....

The FFR guy's stock went WAY up in my book. They came a larger than normal group, with open cars, and drove their asses off all day in the steady rain.

Cheers...

I would also like to say thanks Pat for another great event and ability to attract some serious hardware. I must admit I was really not looking forward to running in the rain but had a blast yesterday. I was lucky to get a decent run late morning when it was starting to dry out. The second run group got the short end of the weather and the color coded results help a lot. I ran Hoosiers in the AM and my street tires in the afternoon.
Chris Masiello and I switched cars in the afternoon in the rain. I get a half second on him in my car and a tenth in his car (ya!)--- sorry Chris--- I was r eal happy with that as I haven’t driven anyone else’s car in over a year. My first two afternoon runs are in my car and second two runs are in Chris’s car with his rain tires. Chris’s first two afternoon runs were in my car and second two in his own car. I was very impressed with the rain tires on Chris’s car. I was also surprised the crazy camber didn’t seem to be difficult in the rain. Usually a lot of camber with no significant G’s (friction) will understeer like crazy but my car had way more understeer than Chris’s. I definitely drive a little closer to the edge and high risk with three spins in the afternoon…. The track overlay of the course with two spins is funny, it looks like we had two turnarounds! I have to post that video, pretty funny.

Chris I have video of your two runs in my car. I will post them but the video and sound was messed up. You can see you left foot brake--- looks cool--- I really want to start left foot braking so I will study it.

Man I loved that show when I was a kid. I used to tell my mom that I'd have one of those when I got older. I wanted the red light and everything....lol.

Speaking if kit cars - I was behind one of these today:

Resized Image

It was yellow "Puma" - it appeared to be an early 70s version. Kind of neat. The guy jumped on it and it seemed peppy, but not as quick as the vette because I floored it and I was gaining on him quick. As I passed him I could see he had a harness bar, harnesses, racing seats, and few other upgrades. Neat car overall.
