When I wrote about the smoke test, an exhaust leak or a crack in the header was on my mind. Coming to think about it, the LT1 has an O2 sensor on each side afaik and therefore I doubt both sides are leaking.
The recording nevertheless shows lean on both sides.

a thought... is it plausible that the dynaspark is sending garbage data that screws things up, but doesn't cause a code?

Not likely, it would run rather rich, due to bad ignition timing.
My 93 recording got a code 36 in it and it was a new bad opti! It only shows BLM and INT values on the rich side, even though it just has been tuned with LT4 hotcam.

I personally prefer to look at the adl files with moving numbers, oh well.
You sure got a major lean issue! Get yourself a smoker, close the exhaust and throttle body with tape and let him blow the smoke in with a straw, free at McDonalds ;-).
The computer is for sure dumping a lot of fuel in (high inj pulse width numbers)to make up for the lean condition, but cannot get a handle on things.
To much fuel robs you power, just like to little.

BTW your IAC values seem to confirm the false air issue. Permanently low values and at idle closing altogether, not good!

Unfortunately TPrt always gets some spikes in the recordings. For a split second almost all values max out, when it makes no sense. You'll learn to ignore this real soon.
Don't forget, TP is a one man show for free, with a lot of support from the 3rd Gen guys to get a handle on things.
No commercial interest behind the movement. The guy sure isn't gonna get rich from the voluntary support!

Hi Andy,
usually TPrt doesn't have a problem with Win7. Did you create an "adl" file prior to recording?
You have to open "Select log file for rec/play" give it a name and hit record. Don't close the small window just minimize it. If a counter starts to run you're all set. No counter = nothing recording!
Good luck.
Axel

BTW the recording from a 93 I got, also shows these injector errors, must be a software glitch.

How relates "spark knock is back" in your heading to it, just curious? Does "is back" mean less knock or showing up again?

Just asking, because I am tuning an 88 4+3 stroker and it rather develops spark knock at low load instead of tip in knock, which puzzles me a bit. EGR has been deleted, but sounds like it might be false air, when I read this thread.
As per TunerPro, BLMs are OK or rather on the rich side, supported by MPG calculations.

Sorry for hijacking your thread.
Axel

Well, if you know your way around with a soldering iron, did you replace the electrolyte capacitors? 26 years, those things are way overdue.

How do you know if you're running rich or lean in open loop?

Common senses, spark plugs, exhaust gases or wideband O2.

New TP Version 5 has the "closed loop" checkbox on the bottom of "Show Data List Views". The old Version 4.x, which I still prefer, has it under "F" values.

I replaced injectors a few times now, but I'll never touch that fuel pressure regulator again!!!
Without a new seal/o-ring it's virtually impossible to hook it up without leaking.
Get a new o-ring, without it'll be a loosing battle!

First thing that came to my mind, ECM may have a low voltage feed? ....but that should increase idle as well.
How about TPS?

The 730_8D is the correct ads!!! It's the exact same internals as the 727 just a different housing/connectors.

The 730 is for inside use, the 727 for under hood usage, that's why.

TP V5 has problems with the CCM as well, use V4 and you're good to go.

Defective fuel injectors blocking each rail under load?

Try cranking it with only 6 injectors. Disconnect one on each side and play out the various possibilities.

Don't forget the 9th injector. That sucker can block the whole system as well.

With the original eprom VATS gets the signal to ground the starter enable relay.

With VATS removed the relay isn't grounded and the car won't start. Either enable VATS in the new tune or ground the relay permanently.

After I stranded a few times with VATS over the years, I thought it was a good idea to carry along an eprom with VATS removed. I too needed to short the relay to be able to start the engine with VATS removed.

Almost all brake handles of old bicycles have a cable ending like that, at least over here in Germany. Should look for a bike store to get the part, if you want to build the cable yourself. Good luck.

That's what I am saying, infinite on both measurements!

edit:
That was a lot of nonsense, that's why it got deleted.
W/O fingertips in the way, still infinite at 2000K-ohm at the button or ground.
Maybe my cheapo meter isn't high scaled enough?

Sorry, mine does the same, that's probably not it. Between bat and tach leads you'll get zero resistance.
Rotor button contact to ground is about 8K-ohm.

Might want to try your old p/u coil? This little sucker can not always be determined good by measurements. Heat can do weird stuff to coils.

Do the simple ohm check, lowest scale on your meter. I bet those values are all over the place.

This link you can usually find in every HVAC thread about C68, but I post it once more.

In addition to the resistors make sure to exchange the electrolytic capacitors as well. Common problem with all Delco/Bose stuff.

If you mean that it froze up during recording, that is a known problem with the 7165 ECMs. Some seem to be better than others. Only thing that helps here, engine off for a minute or two. It's not a laptop, interface or program issue, just the ECM unfortunately.

Not sure how much you're in a rush to get going.
I am not a particular fan of Datamaster, since they don't support you when your laptop takes a dive or you upgrade to another. The license is only good for one computer, as far as I know.
We got a fellow here in Germany, who seems to have got the missing link for the 94-95 CCM TunerPro issues.
He made a first test and he seems to be on the right track.
TunerPro is freeware and has a great movement behind it for the L98 engines.
With the break trough, TP could be the way to go for LT1s as well.

Here are a couple of my cables that I made for a bunch of guys here in Germany. It's good for all those various laptop softwares, like TP, TTS, EFI etc. Works with serial ports or USB.
The reason for the model being, the circuit board is in the trunk ;-)

That is a CDM fault. I've got 2 of those CDMs with the same symptoms. I switched just about every part from a known good CDM to the bad, except the ICs and what seems to be an amplifier-IC with some 12-16 legs in upright position.

Would be great to see a returned CDM from those repair guys, with an open view to the circuit board to find out what they did.

I guess I phrased my question too complicated.

Where does the ECM get the reference pulse for the injectors from?

Would unplugging the IGN+ at the distributor take care of the signal, or would I have to unplug the tach signal as well?
Or does neither help and I still would need to pull the INJ fuse?

Thanks.

Hi Gurus,
the other day I made such a test on an 86 Vette and disconnected all injectors, just to make sure.
Of course the ignition part was disconnected as well.

Just wondering, if I only disconnect ign.+, would the injectors still get a pulse signal or was that overkill?
I know I could have pulled the inj fuse as well, but just in general, do I need to do something to the injector side to avoid flooding?

Thanks,
Axel

Here's another one real poorly advertised and not many followers. Maybe a potential bargain, who knows?

The Moates adapter pictured is worth about $35.- and the Memcal at least the same.

I hope I am not raining on someones parade here.

Hi Matthew,
in my pile of parts there should be still a spare MAF. Just switch MAFs and see if the same thing happens with mine too?
That's exactly what I got my spares for, troubleshooting those intermittent faults.
Good luck,

From reading at different sites, that is part of the instrument cluster. Some are others aren't equipped for cruise control. You might want to check that first?

The site to check those values is great, though.
Thanks.

The exhaust, yeah! The music rather suggests, it's made in China or an uprising star in porn movies

Hi Gurus,
I didn't find a picture of the 84-89 circuit board anywhere, at least not the correct side.
I would need to know the resistance value or the color code of the burned resistor.
I marked it yellow on my board. The resistor right next to it seems to be the same. Does anyone got a spare and could take a look?
I can only make out gold on top and brown on the bottom.
Thanks
Axel
