Morning,

Almost 50º here this morning. Looks to be a nice week ahead, 50s and 60s. Might even reach 70º. We still have a bunch of snow from the 9+ inches we got early in the week, but it is going fast. Might just get the 94 out and cruise. Maybe even have to look into getting out the Firebirds and the Z28. They look kind of lonely sitting in the storage building since late November. I kept the BlueToy in the garage at home all winter. Even if I couldn't drive it, I could look at it once in awhile and pet it. Oh wait a minute, that was the dog I was petting. Teebee, congrats on the Face Book page. Your work looks top notch.

Don

Sounds like I am the only old one on here. Heck I thought being only 40 was young. I guess I like too many old traditional things. Of course, some have said I am in my dotage.

I took the test. It said I was 40 mentally and am wise and curious. No wonder I still do stupid crap. I thought I'd get over that some day.

Morning Gurus,

It is a crappy morning here in old ND. It was 66º on Saturday and calm. Sunday it got up to 49º before is started to rain. About 1pm the temp started dropping, so by 7pm or so it started to snow. It snowed all night and is still snowing with the wind blowing. This morning we have about 8" of that lovely white stuff. Should be a wonderful week. Back to driving the old Ford 4x4. Have a good week.

The yo-yo keeps going on here in ND. Yesterday 2+ inches of snow after a warm week and down to 21º last night. Today as I write it is 55º and the snow is almost gone again. Must be spring on the high plains. Have a good week. By the way, I enjoyed the Sebring reporting.

It was in the 50's and up to 60º all this week. The snow was all but gone. This morning it was 27º and there is 2" of snow and still lightly snowing. On a good note, it is suppose to be in the 50's tomorrow. That's the way it has been all winter, yo-yoing up and down. Guess I'll work on the trains today or maybe just play with them. Have a good weekend.

Nothing so exciting on my agenda as your trip. But, I did get the Blue Toy out of the garage today and took it for a spin and knocked out some of the cobwebs. I not sure it was the car's or mine. It was 51º yesterday and as I write this it is 60º. That's above by the way in good old ND right near the MT border where the men are men and the sheep are nervous. Have a good weekend all.

Good morning,

I am up early with nothing on the agenda. Just like I like it. The past two days the temp reached 51º. Really nice and we had a little rain yesterday morning. It is suppose to be only about 30º today, but back up to 50º for the weekend. Maybe spring is finally here. I can hear the BlueToy whispering take me take me as I walk by out to the old pickup. Have a good weekend everyone.

You're the first I've seen that can explain it-
does anyone's brain really work that way? They say they want students to 'show their thought process' on simple problems the same as others and that it makes it easier for them to 'round' numbers up to easier to add/subtract whole ones. What's the point if you then have four instead of two to combine as shown in that diagram? and then what happens when there you are subtracting in the first problem, then to answer correctly you have to add. Then further more if the answer is such that ends up as a -x... wtf? then moving on to upper level math...
"what a load of $#!+"

That process is a big load of SH*T. I taught Math for 32 years and people do not learn or process that way. The process of estimating and rounding to subtract is crap. It not only wastes time but often leads to the wrong answer. This is one of the reasons a cashier can't even make change if the till doesn't tell them how much it should be. They don't have a clue whether it should be $5 or $15 because they can't subtract in their head to even tell if the amount is in the ball park. Nothing beats old time math skills and learning the multiplication tables by heart. Ok, off my soap box.

It is a miserable day here today. Yesterday was 45º with the sun shining and no wind. It melted all day and the city even scraped off some of the ice on the streets. Today it has been dropping all day and is now 4º with a 30 to 40 mph wind. Suppose to get to -20º tonight and not above zero tomorrow. It is also snowing a little.

The whole winter has been this way, yo-yoing up and down every few days. I guess that is better than being cold every day. Keep warm.

Good Morning,

Great day to be alive. Up early and feeling great. The temp is 32º and is suppose to get to 40º or so. But like east of here, it is suppose to yoyo up and down all next week. Did you hear about the bumper sticker: If you voted for Obama twice, you are too stupid to argue with. Have fun Gurus.

Morning,

It is -10º this morning with a lower wind chill. We have high wind warnings until noon.

I've been up since 3:30. I had to take the rest of my gallon of colon blow so I can go have a colonoscopy this morning at 8:30. We have to leave at 7:00 or so to get there. The clinic is 60 miles away. The joys of living in a small town in western ND.

Wish me luck. I don't expect any problems, but you never know.

Morning,
It warmed up over night and is 16º. It is suppose to get up into the 30s by the end of the week and to 40º by weekend. I seems that it is about time to get out the Vette except for the snow and ice.

I hope all of you Gurus are keeping warm. It is damn cold here. The wind is 30mph gusting to 38mph. The temp is -19º with the wind chill at -48º. The dog and I had a roast chicken and baked potatoes for lunch with Pecan-caramel-chocolate chip cookies for dessert. So we are full, warm and happy.

I forgot to mention that my alma mater, NDSU Bison, is playing for the FSC championship in Frisco, Texas at Noon on ESPN2. They are trying for a third in a row national title. They were undefeated this year starting with a victory at Kansas State.

0º as I write. Suppose to get down again to -30º this weekend and early next week. We did have a couple of nice days Thursday and Friday when it got up to 40º above with some rain. Off to coffee with the boys.

Good morning,

It got up to a balmy 32º above during the night and is now about 26º. Yes, that's above zero. A 50-60º change from yesterday. The only problem is a sheet of ice on everything. Glad I don't have far to go.

Good morning Gurus,

Sounds like a fun party, Tommy. I used to give a Christmas party for all the teachers and other friends a couple of weeks before Christmas when I was still working. It was lots of fun. Usually 30-40 would show up.

It is damn cold here this morning, -27º, with a wind chill of -46º. But on a good note, it is suppose to warm up and have mixed rain and snow by Tuesday morning, then into the 30s on Christmas. I only have a few blocks to go to friends for Christmas eve and Christmas dinner.

I hope everyone has a joyous Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Spring is here. It is only -12 this morning and no wind so far, but that is suppose to change. Kind of a lazy day. I will do a couple of Sunday crosswords, wash clothes, eat leftover pork roast, watch some old movies and talk to the dog. Shouldn't get into any trouble. Tomorrow there is a slight chance that I might do something, but wait, I don't want to get ahead of myself.

It isn't quite 7pm yet and already the temp is down to -22. It did get clear up to -12 during the day with a lovely 15mph wind. We aren't called NORTH Dakota for nothing. The temps do help to keep out the rifraf.

Morning,
It is damn cold here in western ND. It is -22 as I write and the wind chill is about -40. High today about -12 or so. My poor old dog went out and would have froze of his parts if the vet hadn't already removed them. He still goes and roots in the snow a little. Keep warm Brad, it's coming your way.

Happy noon hour,

It is still -8 here at noon. It was down to -17 early this morning. But it is a bright sun shiny day with very little wind, so not so bad. We are not suppose to see above zero until Sunday. We also had 7" of snow 2 days ago. I've got that all snow blowed away, but the Blue Toy stays in the garage. I did drive it last friday and saturday.

A couple of friends and I went out for a lutefisk dinner last night and came home stuffed and happy. No nasty comments about dead spoiled fish. I'm only half Norski, so I only ate half a ton.

Happy Thanksgiving to all,
I don't get on the chat too often, but I do enjoy reading it every day. I am going over to some friends for the big meal. I'll try not to eat too much, but I usually do. Lots of rest in the afternoon with maybe some pinochle to pass the time during FB games. I've enjoyed the time here on GURU since I joined and have even learned some things. Not bad for an old retired school teacher.

Morning,

It is a bit cool here in western ND. The temp was down to 3º this morning and it is only 10º now. We also got a couple inches of snow over night. I don't suppose I can drive the Blue Toy today. I will probably have to stick to the old Ford 4x4. The dog came in from the outside and was covered in snow and it's not even snowing. He is old but still likes his fun, just like his master.

Have a great Veteran's Day and thanks to all who serve.

It is 53 above up here in ND today and is supposed to be tomorrow also. It has been getting down into the low 20s at night. It was so nice I took the Blue Toy out and about this afternoon. I think I will take a little road trip tomorrow to see an old friend about 60 miles away. It'll be a nice drive in the afternoon. Have a nice weekend.

Today is a cool day, but I made it through yesterday okay and none the worse for wear. I gave up celebrating over 30 years ago. Thanks to you all for the birthday wishes. It was appreciated.

I like Tommy's comment about eye trouble. I can't see myself working either. After all, I'm past 65. The weatherman is talking rain and maybe some snow tonight, tomorrow and Saturday. Too soon. I have squash, cucumbers, and tomatoes still growing in the garden.

Hi Tom,

Yes, I do have a shaper and they will be paneled doors. These will be for a real old decorated hutch with big top and bottom doors. I've got to try and match the old oak casing. It has lots of curves and decorations. I'm not quite sure what I'll do to match the old finish.

Good morning,

It is in the 40s and is supposed to get up in the 60s later today and down near freezing by the end of the week.

I turn 65 today and go on Medicare and supplemental insurance. That will cut my monthly premium by more than half. Hopefully, I don't have to worry about any of this Obama Care crap, although I'm sure it will affect my premiums somehow. I was surprised by how many insurance requests I received in the past 3 months. It seems everyone in the country knows my age and birthday. No secrets anymore. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to be getting older. My parents both died at 61.

I have to go and measure some cabinet doors this morning for a lady. She is insisting I build some new ones for her. I haven't done much woodworking lately, but my woodshop is calling. I guess I'll have to get off my butt and do it.

Have a good day.

Good Morning gurus,

I thought I was the only one up this early. It is cold here in western ND. Just 38 degrees at last look.

No, it came up from SD about 100 miles east of here and 75 miles south near Lemon, SD and ventured off northwest through Bowman & Marmarth, ND, then Baker, MT up to Miles City.

Good morning,

It is cool and rainy this morning, but it is suppose to get hot and sunny. Humidity should be high.

The Monad is the symbol of the old Northern Pacific Railroad that went though here. Now it is the part of the BNSF system. http://streamlinermemories.info/?p=2118
