Glad it stayed within the inner circle of the Gurus

I had a real good feeling recommending it, since the seller has 100%, it came with the chip (probably a wreck) and the seller being in NC was a good thing, too.
Still good to hear it wasn't DOA!!!

The chip probably won't work in a Vette. F-Body chips have a couple of different features.
Are you able to read out the bin from the Eprom?

This one is probably gone real soon.
For the Gurus a little head start, good luck.
I am not the seller nor do I know the seller!

Don't know just guessing, but somehow this sounds like an easy fix you could probably do yourself?
Open up the PCM and take a look if you can find some solder joints they screwed around with.
You'll probably find an EEprom, that looks very similar to our old Eproms. Note, the older once had only one "E", erasable but not electronically.
Replace that sucker and you should be good to go.
On a side note, I would use an IC socket instead of soldering the new EEprom directly onto the circuit board. This way you can replace the EEprom as often as you like.

If you don't need the old defective part and to avoid it's going into the garbage, it's still worth a couple of dollars to me.
I broke the tabs on mine

That is your EGR solenoid. On one side the vacuum line is plugged into your EGR and the other line goes underneath your throttle body. TB side should be plugged or you got major false air issues.

I'd say, it's time for a compression test!!!

I used the ring side of a 3/8 Craftsman wrench and cut off the open end by about an inch. As I remember, it was a pretty tight fit with the 12 point ring. I broke the bolts loose by hammering on the wrench.
At this point, if I were you, I'd probably cut off the valve to get better access to the bolts.

Regarding the lock up, it might be the brake switch at the pedal. I've seen one, where the switch was pressed in too far. I just had to pull it back a little and the lock up would engage again. I used the FSM, a voltmeter and the ALDL connector to find out about it.
Lock up should be contact F at the ALDL.

4.2-4.3V is about maximum and as off 4.1V it will report to the ECM 100% open anyway.
The ECMs as of 90 will set a zero point for none-adjustable TPS, unless it's out off the limits. I prefer to be as close to 0.6V nonetheless.
You can just enlarge the holes a little, no need to buy a new TPS.

If the vented unit fits the older model, you can't beat this price in Germany. €120.- shipped for a good used 1 year old Delco-Opti. I followed his troubleshooting and it turned out to be a different issue, that's why he's selling.

I'd drain the fluid first, before pulling it out.
To get the C-beam out the engine needs to be tilted back slightly, that's why I'd also remove the distributor cap.

This is not a reading based on feedback, that is a commanded value, enforced by the program.
In simple words, that's what it should be, best case scenario.

It's like the IAC valve, commanded to do something, but no confirmation if the valve is really at that position.

I read about MSD at 3rgd Gen forum and supposedly their distributors are fitted with Delco modules. Some guy called up at MSD and confirmed the story.
So my guess is, it's all in the coil. Get a good known coil and be down with it. That's what I would do.
Way too much advertising in the spark business, that has only proven to fill the mfg pockets.

Does it work and display all functions or are there any known defects besides sun fading?

It's all in the prom.

Close, but a friend encountered a major problem when switching over to a manual prom.
The automatic got some wiring to ensure the rear deck or rear window would only open in P or N. That wire has to be cut, in order to switch to a manual programming.
Just something to consider and look into, when you are doing the wiring for the conversion.
Engine ran fine with the original auto prom and couldn't hold an idle with the manual prom.

Not sure if a German link with pics is of any help to you? In order to see the pics, you'd have to register, though.

Well, my experience with ocean freight has been, calculate close to €300.- from port to port. With all the minimums and handling fees you can ship 50 lbs or 2 tons at the same rate.
Probably makes sense to check into airfreight.
Where in the US are your parts?

We just have had the ???-signs in our eyes last week, after chasing down a no spark symptom for a full day!
We changed all ignition parts from left to right. Turned out to be the wiring to the instrument panel, in particular the tach signal.
We just had to unplug the tach connector at the distributor and felt like real idiots, when it fired right up.

We came close when I measured the voltage at the distributor with the cap off. The middle is of course ground, the other two terminals left and right need to have full 12V battery voltage. Ours had 10.7V on the "bat" side and 4.2V on the "tach" side.

Did you try already to start it with the EST unplugged?

Did you check the injectors for resistance?

I am sure, you got a laptop and some software to check on the sensors? Could be a CTS issue, making it way lean or way rich.

You can switch the EBCM with a regular none ZR1 EBCM! I got a spare ZR1 EBCM and put it into my regular Vette without a problem. The numbers might be a little different, but that's about it.
If you can't find someone to borrow you his, just send yours of to someone, willing to plug it into his Vette.
Good luck.

To be honest, you should know.
To erase this type of eprom you have to use UV light!
This is not an electronic erasable eprom, the quartz under the sticker has to be exposed to let the UV rays in, that simple!

That's a bone stock chip, not tampered with!
To erase the eprom you would have to take off the silver sticker. At least a little corner of the sticker would be bend. I doubt it would be lined up this perfect after reprogramming, the glue on the back of these stickers is not very strong, sort of "one time only sticker".
This one is stock!

I've been helping a friend to program his '87 383 L98.
After seeing the pictures from your previous mess, we went ahead and put the rev limiter at 6000.
Now he uses it sort of as a feature and loves it. He puts his automatic in 2 gear and rides it up to 6000, after hitting the rev limiter he shifts manually into 3rd.
Now he can have his eyes on the road and doesn't need to worry about the revs anymore. Like I said, he loves it.

I am a little lost here, need help from the Gurus.

All possible parts have been replaced, still a weak spark. Engine will spin but is not catching.
New cap, plugs, wires, coil, pick up coil, three different modules all stock GM, even tried a spare ECM. Battery has been replaced and recharged as well.
Any ideas?

Well, I had someone, where a shorted injector killed the ECM.
The injector resistance on one was a lot lower though.

I had a case where a defective knock sensor would cause this symptom. The only thing we could see was a delayed knock retard at full throttle, when we made a recording with diagnostic software. No one should be without it, TunerPro that is

Only symptom was a pulsating idle after the computer turned into closed loop. No symptoms at full throttle or during regular driving.

Another case was a too small batterie in a TransAm with TPI. Battery was only 34AH and couldn't balance the need for current at a stop light. The alternator was OK, just not enough juice from the battery.

Here's another good one. A friend ordered some parts using her Visa card and got a note after a couple of days, they wouldn't send anything overseas. OK, that's nothing new to us, but they wouldn't return the money they charged on the card for parts they didn't ship.
She had quite a difficult time to get a full refund.
Never ordered there and probably never will.

96 is always a tough case, but the earlier OBD1 softwares were giving you a desired idle speed and an actual engine speed, according to set ECM parameters.
Throttle body opening and IAC play the main role in control.

Quote:
My '91 would die when cold when put into gear and almost die when warm with my mail order chip. Now that the car has been tuned on site by an expert (not me) the transition is seamless.

@flyboy
Do you got a copy of the bin prior to the correction and now?
I am fighting with this problem on a friends 87 with stock torque converter, though. He's got an LT4 hotcam in his 383 stroked L98.
We are to a point where idle quality suffers by trying to correct this issue. A copy of the bin would be a big help. I might find similar values in the $6E hack.

Hi Matthew,
must be fun working with all those new clean parts, that have so much sweat into them.
Not trying to be negative, but are those headers coated or just painted?
I see you got a metal brake booster, good, but I saw already a number of stock boosters, that have holes patched from to much header heat. Still probably a good idea to build some sort of heat shield to protect the booster.
Just something that came to mind to protect you from later grief.
Later,
Axel

That looks great! Especially your color choice for the engine I like. Never understood, why a fairly new model engine would be painted orange to look like 20 years older.
Didn't you have any clearance issues with the balancer? Yours looks like 8" and you may recall the write up of my friend, where I helped to dial in the tune?

307 is probably a 3.07 rear axle, not that it makes a big difference for tuning, though.
