Howdy!
Not much going on today--besides work--typical Monday--typical month--typical 'critical' quarter--Blah..blah..blah..
Helped daughter (4yrs old next month) yesterday make cards, etc, for Mothers day... Just seeing her excitement when we were cutting, pasting, coloring....Man, that's the good stuff right there...Wouldn't trade that for anything...She's growing up wayyyyy to fast....

Here's a photo we took back in Dec at Wrightsville beach... We didn't see this when we took the pic...only showed up after...Purty cool!

Hope all have good day/week!

Happy Friday Folks!

Don-Prayers Sent!

Been really busy lately..Trying to get settled back in at home...Now there is lots of drama at work with changes, etc..Everybody's running scared...
I've decided not to worry about it anymore...Whatever happens, happens, and I'll deal with. At least we're back home!

Think I'll go buy a new battery tomorrow and see if I can get the Vette fired up and see what happens. Been missing out on some prime crusing weather..
(Guess I can't get away with giving the wife the new battery for Mothers day?!)

Hope all have a great weekend!

Howdy Chris!

Great to hear from you!
I'm sorry to hear about the divorce, but things do have a way of working out. Very glad it's drama-free..That makes a huge difference, especially for the kids..

Congrats on the transformation!! Great Job!
Man, I moved back to NC in Feb; otherwise I'd have a place for ya to stay on your way through Columbia!

Best of luck with everything!
Keep in touch!

Howdy..

Well, if it's not one thing, it's another. I think gremlins have set up shop in the car...

I got the hood open, and it turns out the problem was with the latch inside the cabin. Got it fixed, and will install the emergency release cables before I shut the hood..

Now..
I'm still having problems with the digial readout, so I decided to check the codes and see if I was still getting a C12, which I did...So far so good..
Only code I pulled was the low coolant temp, which I expected since I haven't got it fixed yet..

Then..I decided to run the the diagnostics through module 1.4, and when I got to item 08(LCD Blanking Control), the dash went haywire and this clicking sound started coming from something which seems to be behind/below the glove box.

Lost all power--everthing---Disconnected battery and when I reconnected it did the same thing...
Clicking...lose power...
Disconnected battery and exited garage...

Anyone got any gremlin spray?

Finally found my FSM's last night, so at least I know what I'm looking at now..
Will check the tach wire for certain...
AND, once I get that damn hood open I'm going to install that emergency release cable like I was going to do 2 years ago...

On another note...The glitches keep coming...
Now, on top of the Vent Valve Solenoid issue with my truck, I've got another instrument cluster issue (CF). Speedo said I was doing 90 when I put it in drive this morning...
After doing some more reading on the chevy forum, this is a common issue and just as my luck would have it, I'm just over the mileage for the warranty to pay for it all...
They have to replace the entire cluster, because before long the tach and other gauges will start screwing up too..

All I can say is...

Well, I think it's broke. I pushed down on it, etc, but it's not doing anything. I think the end of the cable must have popped off..
I'm going to take the wheel/inner fender off and see if I can unlatch it that way...

But first I've got to fix something else that went wrong yesterday..The window regulator in the wife's rover broke ..
Got part ordered this am..Fun time ahead...

But wait, there's more... The check engine light came on in my Z71 yesterday too.. Pulled codes and after some reading on a forum it looks like the Vent Valve Solenoid is toast..

WTH?! Did a comet pass by...am I looking at Maximum Overdrive 2 at my house?!! Better not unpack the power tools just yet...

I think so..but I'll check again...
It will do ok for a few seconds, sometimes longer, but then freeze altogether or start that damn spin cycle again.

On another note...procrastination has bit me big time..
Went to open the hood last night, and the hood latch on the drivers side won't open.. I think my car has turned into Christine...

I sent it on Monday and got it back on Friday. It looks brand new. You could call him or email him to see if he works on Vette stuff and if he could rebuild it for you and how much. Just an idea. He also does ECM's and such. Here is his link:

Well,
I started having trouble with the instrument cluster (1993 LT1) the other day. The digital readout would go into a spin cycle and would stop briefly if I smacked the dash...

I pulled the instrument cluster out today and checked connections...Everything seemed in order...No damaged connections, wires, etc.

I put it all back together and fired it up.. Looked ok...until I got it on the road, and he display went haywire again..

I'm thinking I need to replace the instrument cluster...
Is there anything else that could be causing this?
My FSM's are still MIA...I know they're here somewhere, but just haven't found the right box yet..

Tks!

Hi Andy!

I drove it from the old house in MO to the warehouse with no issues. (besides sliding on ice/snow covered roads!) It only sat there for 1 day before it was loaded on the transport..

When I picked it up at the warehouse in Wilmington, it drove fine..No issues..

Funky stuff happened when I fired it up on Sunday to clean it up.

Now, it did sit while we were in MO, but I started it every week or so and let it run for a while...
Actually drove it to work a time or two a few weeks before I moved..

I'm going to pull the IP out this weekend and have a look/see..
Wish I could find my damn FSM's...With that packing crew, it's no telling where they'll turn up...

bogus wrote:

I ask because if it has been stored at the movers for a few weeks, I start to worry about rodent intrusion. Mice will wreck havoc on a cars wiring harness.

Also, the ECM is under the hood... there is no way that whacking the dash is going to have a cause/effect on the PCM. Or the CCM for that matter. Sure, it's in the dash, but down behind the radio and rubber isolated at that.

I think it is time to start taking the dash apart, and be ready with a camera...the moving/storage firm may just be liable for this. Unless it's been sitting in your garage at your old home since you moeved east.

Well, the battery is only a little over a year old, but it hasn't seen much use...
I started it up last night to see if the digital gauge would start that spin cycle agin, but it didn't. Of course, I didn't drive it so there was no vibration, etc.
The check engine light did come on, and the water temp (cold) was 140 on the readout..
It did this to me before about 2 years ago, and when I changed the CTS all was good..

Thanks Guys!
Hopefully the dash problem is just a loose connection--
I'll swap relays and check wiring harness for the CTS code..

Howdy!

I just had the vette (93LT1) transported from MO back to NC a few weeks ago. The car was transported in an enclosed 53ft trailer along with the rest of our household goods.

Yesterday, I fire it up and the digital gauge (speedo)starts going crazy. It's blinking on and off, and then starts cycling through all the settings at warp speed. Smack the dash and it stops for a few seconds, then starts again..

I'm thinking the IP may have been knocked loose during transport. If I understand correctly, if there was a problem with the ECM, smacking the dash wouldn't make a difference due to the location, etc, of the ECM itself, correct?

One other problem...I replaced the coolant temp sensor for the digital readout due to a H15 code, and the secondary fan turning on at ignition.
Didn't work...Still get the code and the fan still comes on.
Bad sensor out of the box--maybe wiring harness to sensor?

I've taken the dash out before when I replaced the heater core, but I don't think it's that involved to get the IP removed..Do remember dropping the steering wheel, etc...
Service Manuals are MIA...Probably in one of the unmarked boxes I've yet to open... Ugh....

I am hoping that removing the IP and checking connections, etc, will resolve issue... Any suggestions/advice/ideas?!

Thanks!!
