Sounds like everyone's been busy. I got the rear shocks put on and did the FPR diaphragm. Hopefully that should fix the hard starting. I'm gonna go do some errands now. Got a full plate.

It's a bit of a drive for me now, but when I lived in MI we used to hang out in Royal Joke on the weekends - neat place to go.

Good Morning CGs!

How is everyone's day so far?

I've got a lot of errands and tasks on my plate today. I'm hoping to work on the car a little, get the rear shocks on and maybe tackle the FPR, but we'll see how that goes.

We are also gonna go to home depot to look for a new fridge for the basement. We had one in the garage (only about 7 years old) and we put in a bunch of chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, and beer in it for the party on Saturday. Well, I went out to the garage yesterday and noticed it wasn't running. Oh damn. Yup, everything inside was defrosted (for several days, too) and completely wasted. Looks like either the compressor went or something else electrical and tripped the GFCI. I reset it and plugged it back in, but it wasn't getting cold at all and the compressor wasn't running. Oh well - the previous owner of the house had already repaired the fridge twice (while new, mind you) and said it never really worked right. So we bought a new one when we moved in and stuck it in the garage. It's garbage night tonight, so out it goes!

Hope everyone has a great day, and no fridge troubles!

I don't have headers yet, but I was looking at Hedman just because of the cost. The other headers are nice, but a little pricey IMHO. If you're looking for Melrose, Speedhound (member here) sells them on his website - you might want to ask him.

How was the day everyone?

Pat - that sucks about the rod knock. Is it a pain to rebuild that motor?

Tommy - I didn't know you had more dental work. I thought the last trip was it. Hang in there - you'll have chompers that are good as new when you're done!

J3 - nice to see you again.

As far as me, I got the two front shocks put on before the wifey said play time was over. I'll get the two rear shocks done tomorrow, hopefully.

See everyone tomorrow!

I'd also shoot it with some pb blaster and if the 6 point socket case suggested doesn't work you can get special sockets at sears for getting out rounded bolts.

Good Morning CGs!

How is everyone doing this Monday morning??? How was the weekend. I felt like I was having daily chat withdrawal the past two days...lol.

Anyone doing anything exciting today? I am continuing with my workouts (p90x) and today is Kenpo X - looking forward to that. I'm also gonna work on the vette a little, either shocks or fuel pressure regulator - not sure which one. Also finally found a used plenum for my 89 (year specific....grr) off of CF so I'm buying that and the intake manifold and plan on learning how to port a little bit. Just for fun. Parts won't be here til next week, but it's a project.

What's everyone else up to? Hope everyone has a great day!

I don't really understand the question....There are two holes that need to be capped off - those are on the top of each exhaust manifold. Just buy the correct sized pipe cap and screw it on.

Not the best pic, but you can see the black airbox on the left of the screen (behind a/c compressor)that was removed - from there tubes run down the passenger side of the engine as well as in front of and across to the driver's side exhaust.

Photobucket

Another pic, pass side - here, the two hoses to the far right are smog hoses.

If it is the opti (we haven't narrowed it down for sure yet) yes it is expensive to have a shop replace it. Over here expect around $1000 because of labor costs. There are a lot of pieces that need to come off before you can replace it. Most people go ahead and replace the water pump at the same time as preventive maintenance. You can save yourself a lot of money if you can do it yourself, plus the pride of knowing you worked on your own car.

I don't know in the UK how prices are for GM parts, over here it costs about $400 for a stock one, a little less for cheaper aftermarket, and around $500 for an MSD aftermarket. Some people love the MSD, some people have had them fail almost immediately.

I recommend you pull the codes just to make sure, but it sounds like if you had that much coolant spraying on the unit it could have caused a failure.

Looks like fun! I wish you were closer cause I'd love to work on that, since I never have before. One of these days I have to take off the plenum and do my fuel pressure regulator. Maybe Monday.

Good morning CGs!

OMG - It's Friday the 13th!!! Ah who cares - I'm not superstitious - but it's Friday!

Anyone have big plans for the day? I am about to begin day three of my p90x saga...so far my back is sore, my legs are sore, and my abs are sore - what a great feeling! Lol. Today is shoulders and arms, my favorite workout!

Anyone doing any shows/cruises tonight? I'm considering it, but it's supposed to rain later I believe. And I have to be home at a decent hour, tomorrow I'm supposed to go jet skiing with my buddy (RickAnthony...he doesn't really post on here, but he's a great corvette mechanic). I've never been on a jet ski so it should be a good experience.

Anything new and exciting with anyone?

Hope everyone has a great day!

Well, I wanted to get rid of my air pump because it is so cumbersome in the engine bay and I wanted to clean it up a little. I looked into the air eliminator kits, but at $160 for two pieces of metal and a pulley, I thought that was a little steep. I then considered fabbing up my own, but decided with the time and effort it wasn't worth it either. What I did instead, was found a used air pump (I wanted to keep the original just in case) on ebay that I got shipped for $33. I opened it up and removed the fins and internal gears attached to the fins (if you open it up you'll see). The benefit to doing this it that it retains the alternator bracket in the stock location, which the eliminators don't do (causing twisting of the alternator if you don't custom fab some type of rear support). I swapped it out and removed all of the hoses and the plastic box that they connect into. All that's left is to get one more end cap for the exhaust manifold (I could only find one in my toolbox of leftover plumbing parts)

Overall I think it cleans it up nicely.

Matthew

ps - I just zip tied the two connectors from the plastic box to another loom - is that what anyone else who did the mod has done???

These kids will forget all about it, just like they do when the kids *really* die from drunk driving accidents. We've had a few around here over the years.

Ask these kids after prom when they're getting bombed if they are thinking about the classroom presentation....I think not.

He has class?

Of course - don't you remember? It's sociology and his teacher keeps giving him bad grades on his papers.

I have no idea - but are you replacing the cap, as well, because I thought you said you were getting a shock if you touched one of the wires, right?
