I guess if they are not bolted on tight enough they will come loose from the vehicle yes.

As for spinning them, itll depent on the conditions as well as the tires.

I dunno pappy, it should be possibly with the stick, but you might have to dump it. The 84 had what, 205 hp stock? I used to break the tires loose on my 88 blazer 2.8 liter, but that was a stick. I sometimes have a hard time spinning with my 89 auto, but I have brand new tires that are pretty sticky.

With 205 hp an 84 might have a little trouble burning them off. My 95 A4 can light them up easily, but tires are too expensive to just waste (most of the time).

the 205hp means nothing to smokey burnouts... I would say it's the 290 ftlbs of torque.

With that said, Pappy made an interesting comment you all missed:

Quote:
...ive tromped her good in 1st n git nothun but rpms

That leaves me with a question: When you get nothing but RPM's, does that mean the tach jumps up and not much else happens, or, does the car just go and that's that?

I would think you should be able to break the tires loose, especially with the manual.

I am of a mind to think the clutch is toast.

Test it:

1. Start car, making sure it's pointed to a safe, open space.

2. Put car into 3rd gear.

3. While applying throttle (2000~2500 RPM) and holding the brake (right foot), ease out the clutch.

3a. if the car stalls, the clutch is ok
3b. If the car keeps running, the clutch is toast.

Floor it from a standstill and they should light up easily.

It takes them a few seconds before they actually start burning. You'll probably need a clutch dump and/or some braking to do that.

We need a tech tip on how to do a burnout. I should put my old drag radials on and make a vid...

It won't break free like an LT1...

For all intents and purposes, the C4 chassis was woefully under utilized in 1984. Hell, the LT5 didn't max it out, either. In short, 205 hp is not enough to overpower the chassis. But the 290 ft-lbs of torque should help.

Wind that motor up to about 2500 RPM and let the clutch go, you should get your smoke. But it is rather abusive to the driveline... Just be warned.

You can't light em up if you can't light em up. The best you can hope for is talking about it on the internet.

Now go out and dump your clutch, it'll feel good I guarantee it. Your car isn't that fragile.

well pappy if it is anything to you, mine won't sit and spin either.

Mine jumps and the tires squeal but they don't smoke up like the Bandits old T/A.

I guess I could dump the clutch and get a better reaction, maybe hold the foot on the brake..... but I try to practice good smooth yet fast starts.
