Anybody know if road construction is still on I-294 North? I'll be going up to visit my daughter in Gurnee next week for Thanksgiving. I usually go I-24 to I-57, then I-294 to I-94. Last July on my trip the road construction on most of 294 was pretty bad, along with some on 94.
Thought I'd ask on this thread since it was active again.

Thanks
Joel

Yea, it does whine when AC is off. Actually that's when the noise is the loudest. The noise is still there with AC on, but not as distinct.
That ackits web site is usually where I go for most AC info, a lot of good folks there too! I just like to get some Guru opinions also.
I did a feeler gauge check yesterday on the air gap, .020 is about what it should be.

After spending all morning hitting Napa's and the few machine shops close by, now I'm leaning more just to replace the assembly instead of just the bearing. Got too many "deer in the headlights" look when talking about replacing the bearing.

Hey guys! I'm working on the "family" Buick today. Sounds like the hub bearing is making a "whine" noise, there's also a little movement when I wiggle the pulley side to side. The AC system works perfect in the car, it's a 94 Lesabre with 61K one owner miles.
I can buy a re-manf clutch assembly from Napa for about $100, a bearing for $35 (plus machine shop cost for install).
Any words of advise on just a bearing replacement?

Thanks
Joel

Good morning!
Looks like a rainy Sat. for me too. Was planning on going to a Chevy/Vette show at a local dealership, not sure now if the weather will permit.
Got to get working on a bathroom ceiling that has a small amount of water damage, still haven't found where the water came in there.

Have a good day

It was an add in the atlanta craigslist for T-Bucket frame building instructions. Sorry

Yea, I can relate to this. I had the same type experience with a couple of VW forums a few years ago. Knowing very little about the specifics of a Jetta, I was hunting for the same type info as you were. Finally found a good site.

Good morning! Well, the weather here has been just about perfect the last week with sunshine and low 70's. Looks like a wet and cloudy week-end, that figures.
Still waiting for another call from the Insurance Co.
I don't have a warm fuzzy feeling about this, might be a long fight.
Otherwise life goes on. Finally found the source of a faint coolant smell on the DD, small split on top rad hose. Just go to NAPA and give them $20 more dollars. Never ends!!

Have a good day

Enjoy the get-a-way Mat. That is exactly what I need!
I'm still doing some cleaning on my floors from the water that got in. No damage to any walls, just having to replace all carpet and flooring. And all of this was put down less than four years ago. What a waste.
Have a good day!

This might sound funny, but I have used talc/baby powder. This is a somewhat dry lubrication and dosen't leave the streaks like WD-40 does. I just pull the rubber back a little and sprinkle some in. Won't last forever but it has helped me several times. Started to use some graphite once, not sure what kind of mess it would make on the glass.

Good morning guys & gals!
When did you get a 79 Mat? Between my internet down and the flood of 09 in Ga I missed most of the news this week.
I've got water damage in about 2/3 of the house, spent all week so far removing carpet, flooring, etc. I wouldn't wish this on anybody!
Good luck at the drag strip Tommy. Hope nothing breaks.

Well, gotta get to it.
Have a good day,

If IIRC the 85 tach filter is the same as a 89. The tach filter , which does look like a big condenser, secures to the same bolt as the bundle of ground wires at the top left side of the bell housing. This is to provide a ground for the filter, assuming it is a factory type with one wire in and one wire out. The aftermarket type does have a extra wire just for a ground. The filter can be secured anywhere on the engine just as long as it has a good ground.

Good afternoon. About all I plan to do is clipping a few bushes some easy yard work.

Hey Mat, have you tried a product from Permatex called Gasket Remover. It's a spray-on solvent that will soften those hard dried gaskets. It's not instant, so you will let it set for awhile. I've used it for years on any aluminum to avoid any damage while trying scrap gaskets.

I know this is a long shot, but, take a look at the connector at the back side of the distributor. I had a TPI Trans Am several years ago do this, wasted many hours looking for the problem. I had changed the oil pressure switch and evidently knocked it loose just enough that the plug was not seated fully. Car would run fine with light throttle, fall down with any quick throttle movement.

How old is the TPS? I would check that also for a good smooth current change from idle position to full position.

Good luck

This would be a good week-end for you to visit Pidgeon Forge, Tenn as the "Shade's of the Past" rod run will be there. I was there several years ago and there were lots of T-bucket's and IIRC some vendors.

Hey Mat, that afternoon shift does take some getting used to. I worked the 2nd shift for many years and for me it was good. Not so much when the kids are small, as I missed a lot of things. Went back to 1st shift when they were in high school.

Get the tool!! That bent screwdriver trick is very hard to control, and it's easy to damage w/s, paint and your eyes. Wear safety glasses even with the tool!

Good morning! Nothing much for me today. My back feels some better, might try to get some wrenching done on that D**N motor mount. I just don't enjoy working on cars like I did years ago! Wore out I guess.

Good morning folks! Hope everyone's feeling good.
I've been flat out on my back for the past several days, just trying to get up enough nerve to do something today. Guess I'll go to NAPA and at least get a motor mount for the ole' GP. Removed the bad one last week, had a "gel" filled mount on it. I didn't even know those existed, learn something new every day!

Have a good day,

Good morning.
My computer is always slow so I never know when the site is having problems!
Looks like at least part of my day has been planned out. Son's VW Jetta quit last night, first time in many years I had a car on a flat bed coming to my house.
Codes are pointing to a speed sensor, it's like a Easter egg hunt looking for some of these sensors.
Nice and cool today(70's), so we're off and running!

Usually that type of knob is removed by :1st removing the plastic "press button" on top. IIRC, this can be done by carefully prying up on the button with a small flat screwdriver. 2nd after button is removed look straight down at the shaft, there should be a "C-clip" holding the knob onto the shaft.A snap-ring tool is nice for this, but a couple of small picks or even a small head screwdriver will work.

Good morning! Everyone feeling OK?
I had some plans today until I looked at the pool this morning. Looks like some patches of algae on the bottom! Not what I wanted to see!! So, off to the pool supply store to pizz away some more money for something that's hardly used.
Need to stop by Harbor Freight and get a "pencil" type solder iron. Thinking of trying one more time to fix a circuit board in a wiper motor on my Firebird. The delay funtion stopped working several years ago, could be a cold solder joint.

No, Andy you're not the only "old fart" here!
I had been out of the Army for 3 years, and working for Western Electric as a welder/repairman. Fair money for a single guy. Had a new Grand Prix, which at the time was a pretty nice car. Also had a 55 Chevy 210 Post for the Sat nite cruise, and still had a Triumph Daytona bike.
Things changed soon after, the next year, when I got married.

The one bad memory of this time era was that I sold a 67 big block 4-speed Vette to buy the GP. Not the smartest move, but at the time it seemed good.

Good morning! Spent the usual Fri. and Sat with the Grandaughter, really enjoy these early years with her.
I got lucky with the fan noise in the freezer section of my frig. Just had a build-up of ice around the inside of the fan cover. Used a hair dryer and melted it all, no more noise! But , it ticks me off some that ice would form there.

Went thru the same thing with my kids several years ago with the shipping off to school. It is a long, lonely ride back home.

After reading some of these of posts of all the work some of you guys get done in one day has shown me I've become a "slacker" lately. I like it!

Have a good day
Joel

Good morning! Like 95vette said, it's going to be another HOT day around here. I dread walking from the porch to the pool, guess I could walk fast.
Might be a good time to work on the refig. fan motor. It's making some noise, sounds like the blades are clipping something. I haven't had much good luck with GE products lately, and most are fairly new.

Have a good day

The reason I asked about the time frame of the Seafoam was I read a thread several months ago in a W-body forum where a member ws asking questions about "finding" some particles in his oil. I did not read the thread very close and do not remember all the details. I've never used this product, just noticed some people like it. Possibly this "cut" some crud loose? I doubt it, but stranger things have happened!

But, in my opinion 99.9% of the time the gold colored particles are in fact bearing face material. Just a suggestion, on your next oil change use a paint strainer on the old oil and see what gets caught. New lower end bearing can be installed "in car", cam bearings are a different story. Good luck.
