3M "window weld" ribbon sealer for glass setting is what I used. Glass shop nearby? Maybe they could give you a gob.

Do you make your gaskets with a small ball peen hammer? Just askin' .

Thought small ball peen hammers were for breaking kneecaps.

Why don't you do the field service mode check first to see if the car is going into closed loop with the stock O2 sensor. Mine always did, with tPIS headers, after about 5 minutes of driving.

Reason to go, lots of Corvettes to ogle.
Reasons to show, another matter. There is a fee to show your car. If you are not a club member, don't expect to place in the voting. Lastly, no one is allowed to leave early meaning a 6+ hour day at the dealership.
I will have my new GS there only because there are a couple cosmetic issues with it and I feel I will have a better chance of getting them resolved to my satisfaction if the car is on display at the dealer where it was purchased.

Depending on how you could camouflage the heads, and the importance of appearance, how about countersunk aluminum pop rivets through the face into a thin sheet metal gusset and glue on the backside?

I had just driven her on a pleasant 200 mi. round trip to see Merle Haggard and Kris Kristoferson and was browsing the local dealer webpage when I spotted the new GS. I have been bugging my wife ever since I retired to move somewhere else. She always has an excuse why we can't. Lately I've been bugging her to buy the empty lot next door which she doesn't want either. So I said Sal, check this new Grand Sport at Bill Kay Chevy. You know, it won't be to much longer and all I'll be good for is oil changes. It would be nice to have something, all I have to do is wax it and it will take me anywhere I want to go for a long, long time. She said, well then, if that's the case you'll just have to forget about that lot next door. That was all I needed to hear and really could not believe it. I moved quickly before she had time to change her mind. Lot, what lot?

Ha-ha, yeah. Since I really don't have any blood, sweat and tears in this one ('cept for the purchase price) and no clam shell hood (not much shiny stuff to ogle under the hood either), I'm going to try and not worry about every water spot.

Thanks, I've always admired the white/red of the first Corvettes. Hence the "Heritage Edition" moniker.

I loved my '91, my first 'vette, but the new one is just... well I'll let the pictures do the talking. Can't wait to hit the road.

Thanks. There was one hiccup. A cop from the small town of Geneseo Il. (pop.6500, LEO's, 7) keeping an empty stretch of Interstate 80 safe and keeping the town's coffers full, hiding in the bushes.
The speed limits I encountered on I80 ranged from 55 to 75mph with the progressive state of ILLinois being on the low end.
Pay as you go.

My now 80k mi. '91 300rwhp L98 that is. It performed without a hitch on my 2600 mi. Colorado vacation.
One thousand mile I80 drive there in 100 degree heat.
600 mi. of mountain driving up to 12000 ft. elevation and a non-stop 16 hr. marathon return trip on US36, (love that road). Didn't burn a drop of oil and averaged 22mpg.

Doesn't take much, I guess. I had the engine running the other evening and noticed a strong spark every few seconds jumping from the #3 plug wire at the distributor boot to the plenum extension, about a 1/4" jump. Newer cut to fit Taylor wires. First thought, faulty insulation. Couldn't be anything I did, right?
Wrong, removal of the boot revealed a piece of the spiral winding I neglected to trim after crimping the distributor terminal. The carbon tracking is visible along the jacket where the current traveled under the boot.

Talking street driving now, but I never used to left foot brake, it's awkward in most cars and half the people that do ride the brake.
In the C4, however, the pedal position makes LF braking a natural for me. I do it except in heavier traffic where it's not an instinct yet and I might have to make a split second braking decision.
Hmmm, blip the throttle for a smoother downshift, have to experiment with that.

Just bought the left side dash defroster vent.
Mine is cracked, probably from P.O. use as an egress assist.
Prices are fair but sure makes me appreciate the deals I got on parts a couple months ago. Think I'll give him a call and see if he still has that drive shaft, glove box door, A/C compressor....

On a '91, both fans are identical. Left side fan mounted higher on the radiator is the primary one.

"If the engine is actually overheating and the gauge indicated overheating, but the cooling fan is not coming "ON", the Coolant Temperature Sensor (CTS) has probably shifted out of calibration and should be replaced."
This is from the '91 FSM and sounds like your problem.
The CTS is under the throttle body in the front of the intake manifold base.
No "gauges" button or digital readout on a '91.
This is where a Tech 1 would come in handy to check the accuracy of the dash gauge. My gauge needle is just past the middle at about 200*F.

What can one of these tell me that a paper clip can't?
Things like a/f ratio, injector operation, timing, while the engine is running? Just trying to decide if it's worth my while to buy one. Didn't find a whole lot with a search.

A few pics of Packards from the annual Oak Brook Father's Day car show. I know Andy's a fan of the marque. I've been day dreaming about a '49-'50 "bathtub" Packard sedan lately. Probably won't happen, but one never knows.

FSM rear axle fluid recommendation mystery (C4 tech)

The only reference to rear axle fluid change that I can find in the FSM is under "Recommended fluids and lubricants", page OB-13. It states "Rear axle gear lube 80w90...12oz. and gear lube additive... 12oz.
Well 12oz.+12oz.=24oz., but to fill the diff. up to the fill hole takes about 52oz. which is what I did. All I can figure is maybe they were trying to increase MPG slightly by reducing the friction caused by more fluid. Also I never heard of putting 12oz. of LS additive in. I used two, 4oz. bottles which is generally regarded as overkill. Am I missing something?

You did such a beautiful job on the engine build. What a bite to have to pull it apart.

Westmont is about 20 mi. as the crow flies from downtown Chicago, so it's now just another older suburb rather than a small village with an identity since the tentacles of the city reach 40 mi. or more. It started out as a high point on the BNSF railway that allowed the local brick factory's rail cars to more or less coast, laden with bricks into the city to rebuild after the Great Chicago Fire. I also commuted via that line for 35 years. During prohibition it was nicknamed "whiskey hill" because of all the speak-easys. Our other claim to fame is that Muddy Waters lived here. We're surrounded by far more affluent suburbs and were being swallowed up by them with teardowns/Mcmansion rebuilds before the crash. That pretty much stopped, which is a good thing because now I have a nice empty lot next door. I don't care at all for the climate and congestion and would move in a minute now that every day's a DNBFS day, but every time I mention it, my wife has 100 reasons why she won't. Might buy the empty lot, and put up a custom 3 car garage to play in since it looks why I'm stuck here for now.

...at the drag strip. Six runs were very consistent but I was a little disappointed I didn't break into the 12's like in 2010 and 2011 six times. Damn close though. About the only change to the car was going back to the stock FPR cover instead of the adjustable one. Maybe that extra pound or two of fuel pressure did make a difference of a tenth and a couple mph. Great fun though, perfect weather, and nothing broke. Should be good to go for trip to Colorado in a few weeks.
