Nice write up Jon. Great job on a solid weekend too. Are you racing at Putnam in October? Saturday should be a double race then Sunday doesn't count for anything.

****Hidden message =(Sat. Night at Bubba's should be a dooooozie)

I liked the excellent demonstration drive. He almost hits a parked car left of center then runs a stop sign! Smoooooth.

I received some great advice many years ago. One of my air head, happy go lucky girl friends told me that there's a good side to the bad stuff that I was going through.

"There's only one way to go." When you've been knocked down as low as you can go, it's all UP from there.

That was the greatest advice I've ever heard.

Good luck with the new place/roommate Cuisinartvette and thanks for your input on the CF and here over the years.

Oh yeah, I agree with Andy that the car idea could turn out ugly. That Karma thing could be starting when you take the car away and then come back on you......

Another vote for Ski-Doo. Used MxZ 600's are plenty fast and reliable. I've been away for it for the last 5-6 years but my rankings are:

1) Ski-Doo
2) Polaris
3) Yamaha
4) Arctic Cat

So when do you pick it up?? It sounds like the perfect car for a wt/hp class. It only makes 343 at the wheels but really has 571. Tard.

Why? Didn't you see that Car and Driver lapped Grattan in a Grand Sport at 1:30.xx? Seems like I've seen your C4 do it two seconds faster. And mine 3 seconds faster. Just not on the same day ;)

When I see the GS pictures it makes me feel funny....kinda like climbin' up the rope in gym class.

I saw the C&D write up but I would like a shot at driving the GS w/ Hoosiers. The red beast will be in the low 26's at Grattan next year. (even if I only get 8 laps )

Thanks for the compliments Jon. You would have been right there with me if that da#** car of yours would run!

Good news that it's not another opti. The tach bouncing around should've had you troubleshooting at the track.....I can understand the cooler tugging on your arm though. I think we're both sick of working on these things.

Oh well, bring on the August event.

Thanks Bill. Yeah, Mid Ohio's a great track but I think I would trade it for Laguna too.

Aardwolf, I run TTA, PTA and or ST2. I'll race ST2 if I don't have enough people in PTA for contingencies. TTA is the place to be in the Great Lakes Region. Plenty of C5Z's to pick on. I'm hoping that a few of them will make the leap to PTA once they get their cages installed.

You should come down for the August 14-15 Mid Ohio event. We'll have another big field of Corvette's. (15-20 in our race group)

I know there's not much C4 race footage floating around so here ya go.....My closest competitor in PTA is the red 3/4 scale Nascar guy in front of me. The rest of the cars are either SU or ST1/2.

I won the race Saturday and this is Sundays race that ended w/ a rear diff failure. Click ahead to ~5 minutes for the start. Enjoy

I'm thinking about getting rid of my Ram C4 conversion clutch and trying the 7.25" V-Drive 2plate clutch from QuarterMaster. My current setup weighs 29 lbs. total while this new QM unit would weigh ~ 13 lbs. total including the flexplate.

Am I crazy (don't answer that) or has anybody tried this?

TIA

Brian,

Spectator must have been drunk again when he posted the ratio's for you...(you know how he gets.. )

Pretty much unlimited modifications but hp/wt restricted:

8.7 and up = TTS

5.5-8.6 = TTU

1- 5.4 = TTR

These classes make it simple but can be expensive.

Central,

The C4 does well at the lower classes. If you decide to do it I would recommend getting a set of 18 x 10" wheels and run Hoosiers 255/35/18 A6's. They are a lot larger than a "255" but it saves you some points.

Saturday was wheel to wheel in ST2 (SuperTouring 2) and Sunday was a Time Trial class. (TTA) Hoosier gives 2 tires to the winner in either TT or wheel to wheel classes if there is at least 3 entries.

My best shot at winning tires was in TTA for Sunday so that's where I ended up. (yes, I'm a Hoosier whore)

The TT groups usually have four 20 minute sessions. The first session is only a warm up but the time that you run sets the grid for the next session. That makes it possible to get about 3 clean laps without any traffic. No excuses, just haul the mail. Your best lap in any of the 3 sessions after warm up decides where you finish. It's a safe way to compete without risking any body damage with other cars. (for the most part)

Scary,

Hope all goes well at the test and tune. If you FINALLY get that motor straightened out then I will most likely be in your mirrors. Just be make sure you have some low 35's up your sleeve for Mid -O

Yeah, especially this weekend. Putnam draws a lot of new students so we were doubled up. I instructed 8 -20 minute sessions on Saturday and raced. Hectic and tired!

An update for those of you that didn't make the combined Great Lakes / Midwest Regional event at Putnam this past weekend.

Unfortunately the weekend started off with the usual mixture of rain/cooler temperatures, a teasing of sun, then more drizzle. The upside was that the dryer periods were during the big bore race on Saturday and it cleared off for a great day Sunday.

I usually race my '88 in the PTA class but 2 of my normal competitors that were on the entry list didn't show up. (That is always a bummer when we need at least 3 in class to win any Hoosiers) Anyway, I decided that somebody should have a chance to win something for their hard work and changed my class to ST2 so Geff and Ken would have a third entry. Since I didn't change classes until the last minute I was still gridded mid pack with the PT cars. It turned out to be a fun race (even w/ 3 weekend old A6's...) I started 18th and worked my way through most of the AI field running low 19's in traffic eventually finishing 8th? From what my brother said the battle at the front of the class was INTENSE.......I'll leave you guys hanging until L98 Terror or GAS chime in.

Sunday brought us sunshine and a chilly 42*F morning. brrr I decided that I would try and win some tires for me on Sunday and ran TTA. I also had in the back of my head that a track record could be in reach if I put on my fresh A6's with my brand spankin' new CCW classics !

FWIW, Jesse White has the record for TTA with a 116.9xx and he was running this weekend also. We went out the first session to feel things out, my car started smoking badly under the left side of the hood, not good.....Jesse 118.06x, Me 118.08x. (Hmmm, it's close but doable) Those times set the grid for the next session. 1. Sawtell 2. Smith 3. White 4. Me.........pretty cool because there were some faast Cars on the grid.

Since I was instructing all weekend I didn't think I would be able to get it fixed (power steering line) before the next session. When I came back to my pits after my student's session my 2 top notch crew members (my brother and my boss) were already finishing the repair. Sweet!! I jumped in and just made grid with 1 minute to go. Results from this session Jesse 118.xx, Me 117.66. Things are looking better.

The next session I actually had the hood completely latched and my gloves were on instead of flying around in the hatch... I also had time to think about the basics and focus on the wasted time with my lazy right foot.....The final TTA result for me was good enough for a win and TTA record:116.80x. Jesse was stuck in the 18's but he was on old rubber with some handling issues. I'm sure he'll be back to show me the way around. Sawtelle and Smith were battling for TTS honors and smashing records....more from them later.

There were a lot of fast Corvette's that put on a great show in TTS, TTU and the race classes. We just need a few more of those Blue (and Black) Corvette's to start showing up again in the Great lakes Region!

A big THANK YOU goes out to my crew (Bret and Curt) for taking care of the car all weekend and keeping the beer flowing in the evenings. Also to Hoosier Tire and Pfadt Race Engineering for their great products and contingency programs.

It's pretty common to see other aircraft if you fly on a regular basis. A few years ago the Feds changed the separation requirements at altitudes above 29000'. Now we only have 1000' vertical between the aircraft vs 2000' previously (Westbound aircraft fly at even altitudes and eastbound traffic is at an odd altitude).

The airplanes and crew have to be RVSM certfied to fly above 29k so it isn't a big deal. Better avionics,etc....

I've been a professional pilot for 20 years (9500+hours) fwiw. I currently fly a Hawker 800 (corporate jet). I don't have any horror stories for you.....it's all good up there!

I like to say that Aviation is 100% successful. "We've never left one up there"

Looks like a pretty darn good price to me. I'd like to hear some feedback. Wonder if they do L98s, too.

It would be nice to see Jimmy Page give Paul Rogers a call to see if he wants to start playing with The Firm again. JP wants to play again and Plant just snubbed the Led Zep reunion so why not??

Nice job CC. You were also faster than Josh Hayes. He is a former AMA Formula Extreme Champion with Erion Honda. He will be riding for the Factory Yamaha Team on an R1 for 2009.

Merry X-mas everybody!

If Ohio is an option then I'll suggest coming to Mid Ohio for an HPDE event with NASA. The beginner group only requires a helmet and a safe vehicle. (good tires, brakes...)

We will have 6+ C4's and quite a few C5Z's in the race groups for some entertainment also. Possible dates:

April 17-19
July 10-12
August 14-16

Here's a preview to what the track looks like....(just imagine doing it about 10-15 seconds / lap slower)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ht6SyV8S8Mw

Yes, that's actual speed and no that's not me (I wish). That's on board w/ Danny Popp in his 590 rwhp ST1-C5Z.

The HPDE's are pretty tame. Passing is by point bye only and you will have an instructor with you until they sign you off for HPDE 2. Either way it's a great chance to drive one of the best tracks in the country and learn a little along the way.

We're also known to do a little of this

in the evenings. ( at least the Spectator camp is...grins)

Yeah, the video was a waste of some good beer money....Oh well. I've spent more on less.

I have to second Jon's opinion of the Pfadt's. Nice people with a great attitude. They don't have anything ready for the C4's just yet but their products are on A LOT of front running C5's.

No problem Blade. I must have read it wrong. I haven't seen too many tpi 350's making the power that I am so I'm pretty happy w/ it for the price. I'll be on the dyno again this week after my race so we'll see if I picked anything up with an AFPR that actually works and without mufflers.

If you ain't stagin' lights, or oval trackin', $1250 seems a little excessive.

Yeah, I guess roadracing, going 140mph+, actually braking, turning and shifting doesn't really count......

Plenty of comic relief over there....I've actually been lurking in the C5 section. It's pretty tame. My wax is better than yours, etc

hmm, C5Z w/ a cage for next year. Now where is that lottery ticket.
