Now that I have something I can tow a snowmobile with I'm thinking of getting one.

"I know just enough to get me in trouble"

So what are the basics before I got out and look?

I had a ski-doo and an artic cat in the past, way in the past actually. The Artic Cat was far superior to the ski doo and everything else made back then.

i disagree with the artic cat being superior.. they are extremely heavy. i don't know about the newer models but the older ones sucked balls.

Another vote for Ski-Doo. Used MxZ 600's are plenty fast and reliable. I've been away for it for the last 5-6 years but my rankings are:

1) Ski-Doo
2) Polaris
3) Yamaha
4) Arctic Cat

I always wanted a sled... the problem? We never got enough snow to justify it... sad... and now that I live in LA, it's even worse.
