This is a little premature since it's not assembly time yet, but on the manifold air temp sensor there is a red sealant on the threads. What is that?

Same kind the factory applies on the OEM sensors. Not sure exactly what it is but it works both mechanically and electrically if needed.

I remove that stuff as I have had problems with the lock-tite stuff that comes on factory replacement sensors (used in on an aluminum intake some time ago and when I removed the sensor it tried to take some of threads with it). I use liquid Teflon or the tape and haven't had any electrical or sensor issues.

Thanks, Mick. I was planning on using teflon tape since that's what I have laying around, but I would buy the red stuff if it's necessary.

I like the ARP thread sealer. I use it instead of teflon tape nowadays.

This one?

Is $9 the going price? I'm sure a tube would last me about forever. I have plumbing pipe dope, but I doubt that's 500* rated like the ARP (not that an intake plenum gets that hot, but still). Can you use the ARP sealant for other bolts, such as thermostat housings, etc?

The red stuff on the threads is an anti-galling compound, not a thread sealant.

The directions that come with the sensor will tell you that you need to use a thread sealant of some kind because the manufacturer did not install thread sealant, only anti-galling compound.
