A post on another forum got me thinking about the time I cut a hole in my C3's hood to clear the aftermarket intake and carb that was "guaranteed to fit under the hood of your 81 Corvette".
I remembered what my Grandpa taught me, "Measure twice and cut once". Hell, I got a chalk line out and found the correct space from the cowl and the exact center of that hood. I measured THREE damn times. I am not going to F this one up!
My plan was to glass in a fiberglas cowl scoop so I wouldn't look like a dip whiz while driving around with the carb sticking out of the hood.
Cut the hole perfectly round and even made the hole an inch or so larger than needed in case the engine torqued to the side of my newly hot rodded 355! YEAH - I'm bad! I am an ACE mechanic and body man!!!
Bolt the hood on, lower it and--------------holy schnizzle, I never imagined that GM placed the engine slightly to the right of center in the chassis!!
Bondo to the rescue as I glass in a piece and recut the hole slightly off center.
I got the scoop glassed in and she looked good but I will never forget that screw up.
OK, confession is good for the soul. Let's hear your shameful moment(s).

Head swap no start?

About two weeks before I started on my head and rr swap I installed a fuel cut switch that is "easily knocked".

Drove vette into garage. Started the teardown. Install went smooth. Everything perfect. Went to fire it up. Ran for 5 or so seconds then died. Would crank with not a single issue just no start.
Me and my dad checked everything but fuel since we didnt have a gauge at the time. Could not figure it out.
Next morning went out, flipped the switch, fired right up.
Worst feeling going from running fine to not and then feeling like a total idiot the next morning.

A few years back, the AFPR failed, dumping fuel into #4 and 6 cylinders.

I needed to blow them out, so I removed the plugs, and then proceeded to start the engine... oopsie... forgot to kill the coils!!! FIRE!!!! Not bad, but potentially scary.

I sold my 63, I sold my 2- 65's , I sold my 66, I sold my 76.
My little bonehead mistakes in the shop don't compare to that stupidity.

Great Ultraman. Thanks for reminding me. Two door 57 Chevy post. Bought it minus engine and left front fender from a wrecking yard for something like $150. Put a 421 tri-power Pontiac hi-po engine in it from a wreck and bought another fender at a u-pick yard for $10. Found out the engine had a bad knock and I needed money to fix the 4-speed in my 63 Cheby that I used to go to work and on dates.
Sold the entire rig for about what I had into it.
Think what that would be worth today if I had stored it somewhere?
I think this happened around 1966. Dumbassed kid!

Think harder. I bet everyone has had their significant other come into the room with the Visa bill in hand saying, "What the hell is this charge for $443.29 at (pick one of the Corvette suppliers)?!!!!!!!!!!Resized Image
