What causes a door to rattle? Sounds like a hammer when I hit a bump down the road and its been doing this ever since I owned it. I really never thought about asking about it until today. I looked for signs of rubbing a few months ago and I think I will post pictures of that latter today if I get a chance.

Worn hinge pins and mis-aligned striker come first to mind.
From outside the car, watch as the door closes to see if it moves up when it latches. |

Especially on cars like coupes, hardtops and convertibles, the doors tend to turn into real pieces of crap as the car ages. At some point, just plan on replacing every wear item inside. On your car, it wouldn't be a bad idea to update to the later regulator design too. There's not much to it, I'm told. A friend of mine did it on an '86 and said it was no big deal. They're a better design, faster and much more trouble-free.

Your talking the power window regulator? I want to do that, the PS already had it done and I would love to do it to the drivers side as I go into a military base all the time and putting up and down the window is like watching poop slide down a small hill

Holy Moly them things are expensive. Do any other cars carry the same set up that would bolt up? I want to do this but at 100 bucks for one side its a bit out of reach for me right now.

Ok... inside the door, there are a number of felt pads that do wear out. That's the #1 thing I would check.

This is what I think Bogus is referring to. The window rattles beacuse they are either worn or missing. They are fairly cheap. You might considering insulating the doors as well. Midamerica sells the kit for around 40ish.

Cool I will check that. It would make sence that would be the problem and I could knock that out when I do the new power window regulator.
