It ain't rocket science. Things looked like they were improving in the economy before a 30% increase in the price per barrel of oil. A contraction in demand will bring down the price. Cut back on fuel usage where possible.

Gas prices here in the Chicago area spiked by as much as $.30 over night to a $4.26 average, the nation's highest. The blame is on refinery and pipeline problems. Plus Chicago's special govt. "summer" blend of gas which prevents oil companies from purchasing gas elsewhere during a temporary shortage. We used to have plenty of refinery capacity around here. Not any more. The situation basically sucks.
