Welcome!
This is really an easy job. You will need a 10mm wrench to remove the bolts that hold the EGR onto the intake. It's a tight fit, but the wrench is the best bet. I found that a gear drive wrench is even better (ratchet wrench). You remove the 2 bolts and the EGR kinda just falls off. There is a vacuum line that needs to be disconnected. You can reuse the EGR gasket. |

Stuff a towel down there after you remove the EGR just in case you drop those little EGR mounting bolts.

I have done this myself and it was an easy fix. The only thing I did different was, I used a valve wrench to loosen the valve.

This person has no clue of what an EGR valve is.
However, I know what a valve wrench is, and since I know that, and he doesn't, this means he is either an ignorant fool or a really bad spammer. I am betting on spammer. BANNED! |

Hey Sixtring1, were you ever able to get your EGR valve changed out? I completely missed this post back in February.
I did this last summer on my '92. I got the first bolt out (the one on the "driver's" side) without too much problem. I probably spent an hour trying to get a wrench on the second one before I decided screw it, and lifted the fuel rails. Had the old valve out, the new one in, and the fuel rails buttoned back down fifteen minutes later. If you do decide to lift the fuel rails to get at the EGR, just make sure you smear a little bit of lube (I like dish soap) on the injector o-rings before you re-seat the rails and also make sure the rails go on straight and even before you tighten them back down. Then turn the ignition on but don't start it (this will activate the fuel pump and pressurize the fuel rails again) and check for any fuel leaks around the injectors. |
