I'm curious, anyone think any of these still exist? Hmmm, what if? Imagine if you got your hands on a old Cutlass and stuffed that under the hood. That would be very cool!! Would definitely be a conversation piece?

I'd hate to break something. Honestly, if I found that engine in a crate at a yard sale somewhere, it would become a display fixture in my house...fully restored and perfect for viewing and pictures. Putting it in a project car would RULE, but...what if it broke. No parts. No service.

Olds was very progressive in the late 60's. Those old 442's produced a lot of torque.

Coulda, shoulda, woulda! Some much stuff changed with Cole's edict......It was a short time in history only from 60 to 71 but so much inovation happened during those years that we still enjoy the fruits of that labor even now.

Cole was a genius... but killing this project might have been his waterloo. At the time, he was out to kill high compression powerful engines, this engine could have easily produced huge power with 9:1 compression and a little more RPM. The air it could have pumped...

Oh, DB, as far as replacement parts? Anything can be made. I would take it apart, blueprint every custom part inside. Then, if it breaks, any machinist can make one. Who cares about cost at that point.

Wow, that would've been sweet! I had a few Olds' back in the day - a '65 Cutlass, a '65 Starfire and a '65 Jetstar I. I liked 'em all. I'm glad I had the Starfire when gas was about 30 cents a gallon, since it got 6.8 mpg. But it hauled ass!

I raced a 67 442 one night. It had the ram air package and 4:11's. Got me off the line and I never could catch up.
