Let me begin by saying that this is the first time I've ever been able to see data on this stupid car. I've tried EVEYTHING over the years and for whatever reason could never get a laptop, generic scan tool, or any software to communicate with it. Lest you think I am simply stupid, I should mention that I work on vehicle serial data networks for a living so I know my way around GM LAN with tools far more powerful than a tech 2...still never got her to open up to me.

So I brought the tech 2 home, its on my mind from the other thread. I plug it in and nothing. Try some more things and nothing. Finally figure out the right combination of cables and adapters and viola, I HAVE DATA! This is a friggin' banner day for me. Do you guys know how many issues I've had to troubleshoot over the last 10 years with a goddam volt meter and timing light? This is like coming out of the dark ages!

A few funny things: I could only get my car to talk to me by selecting F body instead of Y. I guess at some point a Camarobird ECM got in there.

Looks like my TPS is f$&Ked, hopefully that explains why my idle is sitting at 2000 RPM after swapping throttle bodies. This has had me diagnosing with said volt meter for several hours...Now I can just push buttons!

Oh, and I can read things like opti counts, DTC's, IAC, IAT, fuel injectors, etc etc etc. This is heaven.

I suggest you guys follow through on the CG group purchase, this is unbelievable.

Lastly, remember when I said I'd photocopy the manual if you bought one without? Ha. We didn't get one. Luckily it's all online.

Turns out it was right. TPS was bad somehow. Bought a new one, fully expecting that to NOT be the problem, and the car idles fine.

I don't know how it got screwed up changing from on TB to the other, but I must have done something. I would have spent hours messing with it.

Point: tech 2. Now I don't know what to do with my evening, I was expecting to work on the car all night!

Thats great with how much time it saved you.

If one was purchased, it would be best to find someone through a dealership to buy it. There are updates for new cars that GM sends out. This doesn't matter now, but it would be best to keep it up to date for future use.
