Both could be power, neither could be.

However, if they are, they should move fore/aft and up down with little more than an electric motor whine....

This is on the return fuel line coming off the manifold. The round part.

Appears not to be a check valve.

Any ideas? Do I need it or can I replace the line without it?

Thanks.

Weird. Looks like a newer version of a fuel pulsator. It dampens out pulses in the fuel pressure to prevent "water hammer" in the fuel lines.

I would not expect this in the return line though, the pressure mostly is erratic in the supply line from the injectors firing all at once.

I am not sure, but I think it's a "shock absorber" thingy... kinda removes the hammering of the fuel as it goes through the lines.

Any other ideas???

I thought that was discontinued with the flux capacitor.

I'm planning a new fuel line run from the manifold to the frame rail, I need to know if I need this thing and the implications of taking it out.

Said with authority, I'd believe that.

I've seen some similar items in the local pipe emporium.

The semi-sealed gas cap is supposed to accomplish that. But now that you mention it I recall there being a secondary tank pressure vent on some cars. I dunno that this is it, that thing looks sealed to me, and round as if it's got a rubber diaphram in it.

It is sealed. I did do some research the pulsating thing Bogus mentioned sounds reasonable in both shape and location.

The model of youre car might be a help, i couldnt see it here.

What do you mean by replacing the lines from the manifold to the fuel rail? The fuel rail is attached to the manifold.

Where the rails bolt to the manifold. There's connections right there in front of the manifold.

I'm replacing the lines from the rail to the connections in front.

I think you mean you are replacing the lines from the fuel filter (or frame rail) to the fuel rail, but not sure that is what you mean. I have the same part on my return line on my '89. I wish I could help but I have no clue what it is. I assumed it was some sort of regulator to assist the fuel pressure regulator in maintaining fuel pressure after the engine is shut off, but that is just a wild ass guess.
