What have you guys installed? Looks like my VKE1000 finally bit the dust.

I went to the ends of the earth custom-wiring it to work with the factory theft system... what a waste of time.

I have no idea what's out there with the new systems. I don't care much about the alarm feature to be honest, but the keyless has spoiled me.

this is just my opinion , the more junk you add the more that can go wrong .take it from a guy that got stranded way too many times by that stuff . keyless stuff can be gotten to by good car thieves.

I didn't care about the alarm either but wired it in anyway.
I put in a K9 because it was inexpensive. It lasted 4 years but I put the black box behind the glove box and think the heat from the sun got to it.
I'm going to get another K9 cause the wiring's already there and cause they're inexpensive - $50.

Made by Omega, they have a boatload of different brands.

I want my keyless back too.

ya know, I think all of these systems are cheapo crap, not even close to the quality of stereo equipment.

So, do you buy a $200 keyless or a $60 one? They'll probably both crap out in 4 years.

Viper had a good rep.
But now, if you hit their website, they're saying don't buy from Amazon, must be installed by an authorized.....or you'll void the warranty.
guess their profit margins aren't where they want them to be.

I think I'll stick to the $60 ones and just swap them every 4 years or so.

I feel like an idiot... I swear the VKE module has 12V.. yet the TDM/horn fuse was blown.

This after 2 hours of diagnosing my mess of custom wiring and relays, lol. Oh well, time to put it all back together and try it out.

I don't think the car is any more/less vulnerable with or without the keyless.

The C4 is annoying because all the alarm functions are using ground inputs, and the lock/unlock use +12V inputs... so all the channels have to be piggybacked with relays.

I used the DEI 712t. No external relays required.

I also used the DEI window control module, and it has been glitchy as hell. Which I'm inclined to blame more on GM than DEI.

I also have the DEI 712t, funny thing is it is almost IDENTICAL to the VKE1000 as far as wiring. I used the VKE and DEI manuals for install..

Hey, but I like the GM logo on the fob! (Even though it is completely worn off now.)

I need to look into finding a new fob for this system and programming it. I recall finding this same fob p/n for a Buick.. but programming may be tricky considering I have the channels and inputs to the module wired up differently.

Kevin... let me put it this way... Do you REALLY think someone is going to steal your car?

I mean, my 92 had a broken window for a month, and I left it parked at several places, windows down, doors unlocked, and nothing happened. (knocking on wood)

Now the window works, just to clarify.

I just don't see these as being desirable cars to swipe anymore.

I think Kevin (like me) just wants keyless entry, the alarm just happens to be incloded in the package.

Yea... good point...

then get one with roaming codes and the bad guys will be left holding the bag... so to speak.

I had a viper on my Prelude back in the 90s. Worked rather well.
