When is this country gonna get off it's ass and and tap what resources we have. I know that coal is not a fuel of choice but filtration science should provide an answer. Natural gas, nuclear power, wind power, solar power. Geez Louise ..... Here we go again.

And every time they are brought up, some one on the right poo-poo's them as being black magic.

I can tell you - it ain't. Solar rocks.

As for oil, we have a shit load under our own country and we need to drill for it. Enough is enough already. We are dependent on nut case dictators and that bothers me... a lot.

The other thought is that this scare is designed to set off a world anti-Iran fervor, making it easier for NATO to strike.

I'm with Andy on developing our own resources. Bunch of wells going in up in North Dakota and Canada...meanwhile we dink around with getting the pipelines approved or not which is going on in Nebraska right now. Build the damn refineries next to the oil fields......still going to need a pipeline to get the finished products to market I guess.

What's lacking is the American Spirit. The guys that used to roll up there sleeves and take on the challenge. That type of man has been beaten down. The kick ass and take names approach goes nowhere. It's blocked by the buraucratic bullshit that surronds everything down to taking a dump today. They'll surround you with lawsuits and keep you in the courts till your broke. They (you know who they are) have unlimited financial resources and they just keep coming and coming till you have no choice but to surrender. Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh! I feel a Joe Pesci imprersonation coming on.

This is the thing. (had to say that) We'have known for 40 years about OPEC and it's games, the supply manipulation and price setting. The problem is cash flow not oil flow. Production is accellerated or curtailed to control the market. I know the same tactics are employed in other markets as well such as diamonds. I would think the US market might be using world supply and saving our fields in reserve for future use except most US fields are corporate managed, owned or leased thus driven by profit. We have stated before the US fields will produce when found to be profitable. At what price point is it profitable to extract from US wells? We all know that fossil fuels are a finite supply. The last projections I read stated supply will last more than 40 years. If the past is any indication of when to take action, it looks like the wells willl dry, the economy will wither and the US goverrnment will announce a crisis of epic proportion in the year 2050.

Not exactly what it sounds like.
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/12/05/ ... become-net-fuel-exporter/
I don't think it's oil pumped from our wells, and it's not crude oil we're exporting but americans are burning less gas, there's ample refinery capacity so to avoid driving prices down here they're exporting some of the excess.
Talk about manipulation.

The numbers are about fuels, not crude.
Take the fact that we import 20 million barrels of crude EVERY DAY and the amount of fuel we exported/imported is rather small.
Capitalism working, I guess.
