It has been over 5 years since I sold my "93, so I don't recall how much
the strut aided in raising the hood. The hood feels heavier than I remember, but maybe the strut has seen better days (I know I have). How much does that strut aid in raising the hood? |

You mean opening the hood is supposed to be easy? I'll be damned. Next your gonna tell me the rear hatch is supposed to stay up on it's own without using a pole. |

I think if it hold the hood up, it's working.
Jason at vette2vette just bought a '91 strut from me in a package deal so he should have one if you're interested. I swapped it out for a chrome one at the time. |

Oh, my goodness, Andy, what a difference. Just installed the Stabilus strut, and it works like a charm.
Maybe we shouldn't tell t-bone about the miracles of gas-filled struts, and leave him alone with his stick. More cost effective. Tommy, you are not alone in the use of a stick replacing a faulty strut. My '82 DeVille lost its' two trunk struts, and I propped the trunk lid with a stick. My DeVille was my golf car, and the stick was there for all club members to see when I was lacing up my golf shoes. Big spender! Andy, you neglected to remind me about the ease of strut installation. I removed a few brackets before realizing that removal of the clips is all that is necessary. |

This has been one of the things on my to-do list since I bought the car August of last year. The hood strut was removed by the last owner and I currently open and prop up with a big stick. Thanks goes out to Bogus-I'll try Ecklers.

Frank - earlier cars have different hinges. Be sure to get the right kit, or, the update. There are retrofit fits for the earlier C4s. Earlier hoods had a mechanical arm that bent and then locked, and used 2 smaller struts down lower to help with the lifting process.
