Yea, that was nice. I have been wanting one of those for some time as a secondary box in my garage.

Well, in 2 hours since my last post the clouds have rolled in, the wind is blowing hard from the north and it has started flurrying, temps is now 32*

I went up to Tahoe/Reno last year and got 12 inches of fresh stuff while parked at the resort, on top of a foot or two the day before. Absolutely the best experience I've had. Went to northstar and Kirkwood.

Shoulda called.

Not a Kirkwood fan that much, mostly because it's so far from the house.

Northstar's great, about 1/2 hour up the hill.
Mt.Rose is OK but i go there cause it's 15 min. away.

You really should hit Squaw, just freekin' incredible.

Heaveny, too.

Hey Daddy! I want you to meet someone.

I wanna look like her on that bike when I grow up...

And, who sent me these storms I'm supposed to get tonight along with the freezing cold that is to follow? I was just getting to thinking about washing the Vette... it finally got warm.
Hoping my tires show up tomorrow and I can get them on Friday. Still excited about that. On another good note - came home to a box of chocolates from my aunt in Tucson tonight. So much for losing 27 pounds... I'm sure I'll find it in a couple of days

Evening guys....the storm hit here hard about 5:30. At 6 we were supposed to go to a Christmas party. Found out it was still going on, so went down. While we were there our daughter (the one who lives here in town) called and said they had lost electricity. About 5 minutes later the guy that replaced my wife as LEPC (local emergency planning Committee) director called her to tell her they needed to open the "senior center" as there were stranded travelers and needed a place for them to go (the Sr. Center is a designated location). It is also connected to the health dept where Rosie is the administrator). So we go down to see what we could do. There were three people there, but the director said there were people at the convenience store that needed to come down. So I volunteered to go get them. While there I picked up a couple cases of water.

About 20 people followed me back where we got them settled in. More and more and more people showed up. One of the first three was a trucker who slid off in the ditch south of town. When the patrol stopped to check on him they told him to get in the car and they would take him in. Well, they wouldn't let him get his coat, billfold, medications, nothing and the truck was still running with the lights on. So I took him out to his truck so he could collect his stuff and lock up the truck. While I was out, we went back by the store and picked up a few more carloads and got them to the shelter. By the time I got back more people had showed up. The place where we went for the party had sent up a basket of food for the stranded to eat.

More people continued to show up, I helped a man and his invalid wife in, and another family I helped carry in there little kids. We spent about 4 1/2 hours there. By then, more of our volunteer firefighters/rescue men had showed up and we started to get everyone bedded down. We had about 30 cots and 100 blankets. Not anywhere near enough for all the people there. I'm guessing around 120, I tried counting a couple times and lost track.

The director said he had things under control so we came home. 99% of the people were extremely appreciative, friendly and thankful to be in out of the storm. One lady got all pissy because we wouldn't let them bring their dog in. I tried to explain that it was a health issue. "Well, I'll just go out to the car and freeze to death with my dog." "Maam, that's your decision." So she and her hubby and daughter left...

I've about wound down now and I'm tired, I'll check in in the morning.....got the call, we will have a two hour delay to the start of school tomorrow.

OH, the snow has stopped but the wind is still howling, so what snow we got is still blowing keeping the roads closed.

Wow,Tom. That sounds like the olden days when the wagon trains heading west got caught in the weather. Mighty nice of you folks to help the stranded. You guys couldn't find a broom closet for the dog? Poor doggie. We have some pet friendly shelters here but you have to be preregistered. Of course that wouldn't help in that situation. What about boarding at the vets as a future pet plan? It may come up again in the future. Good job!

That was offered to them...to call the vet and see if they could get it boarded, but the vet clinic is out of town (north a mile) and they had the roads closed, so it was a moot point.

Both the wife and I are members of the LEPC, so it wasn't so much Kindness, as it was putting our plan into action......come to think about it, kindness played a big part, our committee has like 40 members, nobody else came up to help.
