Does anyone have a junk HEI large cap distributor from the computer controlled system? I need that plastic grommet type clip that traps the 4-wire pigtail where it leaves the distributor.

I can post a pic of where it would go.

Mine disintegrated and it's not something that can be bought, that I know of. Again, non vacuum, computer controlled large cap HEI like '82 / '84 Corvette.

Just need the clip, but if someone has a junk distributor laying around that's a good start. I just don't want to have to buy ANOTHER distributor just because that piece of plastic broke.

Andy, I have. I checked with all the major parts stores and even a few local smaller ones. I've contacted the few remaining places that still specialize in Crossfire stuff, and searched through forum classified on Corvette and Camaro sites.

I'm now resorting to asking individuals who may not have an old junk part listed, that might have it on a shelf. Most car guys have random stuff like that cluttering up their shops and garages, and I'm hoping someone has that odd grommet.

When it comes down to project completion time, if I don't have it, I will try to make one out of either plastic or rubber. The distributor will function without it fine, but it will let air and dust and debris in freely and it doesn't look very good without it.

I fully understand the desire to make it right! I am just without a part and offered up RA as an option.

You may want to hit some local old school salvage yards.

Have you tried the vette2vette site? I've picked up a few different little items from them for my 89. Most recently those damn little aluminum screws from the throttle position sensor, which I was unable to find anywhere else . You might check in with Jason, his email is vette2vette@mchsi.com. Luck to ya !

Hey Scott7 I have a pair of those screws, actually TWO pair of those screws that are spares. Should have checked with me first...I'd have sent them free of charge. LOL.

I'll email him immediately. Thanks for the suggestion. Not only do I need that plastic grommet, but I need the throttle shaft spring from a Crossfire throttle body. The shaft spring that fits the TB with the TPS. Maybe he'll have both.

Thanks.

That little grommet broke on mine too, I just run without it. Why not RTV it if it bothers you?

It's a show engine. Considering the distributor is in great shape otherwise, with quality parts and a new gear...it would be silly to replace the radiator for just that grommet, but on that same token...whatever I do to 'rig' it needs to look great and be functional.

Someone mentioned that the grommet might actually be a part of the harness that goes into the distributor and not the distributor body like I assumed.

I wonder if anyone is making or selling replacement harnesses? Maybe a vendor that sells rebuild kits for these distributors would have the wiring harness?

Info here, I think you are sol finding a new one to purchase. Perhaps you can fabricate one out of those bulk grommet kits.

When I took my spare apart for cleaning I shot a few pictures.
A good friend unfortunately had an engine fire, so I passed it along.
The grommet slides right into the base and is part of the wiring.

No kidding, that's twice what a good used distributor cost, and near what I can get a new one for. LOL.

Hey Awesome, thanks for chiming in.

As I understand it, the plastic grommet is molded onto the wiring, as seen in this image. If you have a junk distributor, I'll pay shipping plus whatever you want for it and I'll have you box it and ship it to me.

The little piece to the left correct?

Let me tear into my old piece and make sure it is in one piece before I send anything.

The grey plastic piece with the stud is the portion that is broken off. It's the grommet that holds the 4 wires in the distributor and the cap seals down on top of it. As I understand it, it's a single harness and the grommet part can't be removed.

after looking in my box of parts where I had it I see it is gone. It may have been misplaced or tossed during our current move in the garage. I will keep an eye out as we unpack.

Thanks, I appreciate it. The distributor I have will work the way it is, but the OCD in me really wants to fix it somehow. LOL.
