Ah, yes... the third gen F-body... one of two cars known to man to depreciate on the assembly line... The other being the Yugo.
A friend had an 86 Firebird... it was totaled... replaced it with a 78 T/A, and the 78 was a better car in all respects. |

I had a 79 Z28 for a short while.....what a pooch....got beat one day out on Hiway 24 west of Beloit Kansas where the road is straight for ever.....got beat by a Crew Cab 454 pickup full of guys and a bunch of ladders on it......I was so pissed I sold it soon after and bought my 79 Corvette with 4M and L82.....now that was power....
The only gen I liked on the Camaro was the 1st one...I do like the newer ones but wouldn't own one. We actually had some Taurus station wagons and a Sable wagon back in the day.....good cars....tyranny's were weak....that was back when I could not stand the crap GM was putting out.....except the Corvette of course... |

I was not a big fan of most 80's cars. Matter of fact, after my 83 fully loaded Cavalier, I moved to trucks. 85 S-10 V6, manual, ext cab. 89 Dodge extended body conversion van, next was a 90 full custom 4WD Bronco. My 79 T/A was my last sporty car till I became an empty nester. I do like reading your observations, analysis and stats though John. What got me into a 83 Cavalier? A family car that was better on gas. Traded my T/A on it. I was trying to grow up. Failed miserably. |

The first car I ever purchased new was a 1993 Geo Prizm LSi. I saved my eighties mistake for Lauren - at least I knew somewhat what I was getting into ... ... thanks for the kind words. |

I leaped from 70's garbage (76 AMC Pacer) to an 81 Toyota Celica coupe.
The Toyota was a fine car. Well built, reliable. Not super durable yet, tho. But some of the issues related to an accident I had in 1985... hard to assess. But burned valves at 95k miles is a bit early. I then started with Honda's... and those were well done cars. And finally my Vette. Which has done ok, really. |

The Ford Taurus was a great car.
I remember my best friend's parents had an 80s Taurus wagon and we used to sit in the back facing traffic behind us. Funny memories from childhood. |

I see not much has changed Speaking of 80s S10s...my first vehicle was a 1988 Chevy S10 Blazer 4x4, 2.8L 5 speed, 2 door. As stock as you could get with zero options (including crank windows), but I loved that thing. |

I got stuck behind one of those recently in gridlock, damn kids making faces at me for 10 minutes until I could change lanes. :| The Taurus was especially sad because it replaced the LTD, which was built on the Fox platform and had a 5.0 option and a posi. As ugly as it is, it still smoked the tires. I drove my dad's 78 LT1 Camaro for a year after having issues smogging my LTD. The 78 was beat to shit but a fun car for a teenager to go horsing around in. My dad bought and sold it for 1000 bucks. It's actually what inspired me to go shopping for a nice 3rd gen, before I realized I could afford a crappy C4 instead. |
