MOOG is part of TRW... all their stuff is now made in China. National is a Chinese company.

I have access to the rear bearings used by Tommy Morrison... OEM bearings, packed with Mobil One Synthetic grease. They have about 50-100 miles on them.

Also, there is a guy now making rebuildable bearings... They are expensive, but front only...

After doing some research 5 years ago I went with the SKF. Never had a problem with them.

I don't know about the assembly but as for the bearing itself, SKF should be top quality. The problem is not solely because of made in China. SKF does fab a lot in China but they do great quality. I never had problems with SKF ...

I would get the AC-Delco. Or at least to open the box and check and see if it's still the OEM bearing. SKF hasn't supplied the original NDH bearings since they were still named Chicago Rawhide in green boxes.

My limited experience is the NDH have been the most durable... but some of that may be due to coincidence of having more break in time on them. I'm putting one on right now.. I already had it.. the old one only has a cunt hair of wiggle to it so I'll keep that too. I has has 25K miles on it, and probably 4 track days.

Basically they overheat and the grease blows out the seal, which probably causes them to wear even faster.

Actually I do have a blue box skf with what appears to be an oem NDH bearing. But I picked this up maybe 5 years ago. If you get one that's shiny or painted black, without the visible grease seal, it's something different.

The bearings I recommend are OEM bearings, from 1991! They were run in 1 race or 1 practice, then replaced.

Morrison was of the mind that the problem was the grease... and thats why they had these filled with Mobil 1 Synthetic grease, vs conventional grease.

I took a brand new one apart just to see if it could be made rebuilable

The cassette bearings come apart in the process

I've taken the approach of throwing the cheapest bearing I can find at it....none seem to stand out as better than the next. I do have a few sets of the rear roller bearing variety which I want to experiment with replacing the inserts.

What seems to make a difference for *me* is breaking bearings in with gentle street miles.

I think that's true as well. It's well documented that a bearing will run cooler after break in. I had two of the cheaper bearings develop slop after only an auto-x, they had no street miles on them.
I just pulled out a oem that has 25k on it, and was on there for two years before it saw a track day, it's not bad, but has barely noticeable slop.

Keep in mind these bearings first application were for a front wheel drive Cadillac. Probably other fwd applications as well with different flanges. It's not as if they were designed for the corvette. GM just figured they were good enough. And figured wrong.

What brand is that Brian? Looks like timken, national, etc. not oem.

Do C5s have bearing issues? I recall they use the same design other than having a separate upper camber link.

I had the same issue with fronts after one autox. Installed the day prior, drove to the site 30ish miles, 6 runs, drove home. Bearings were making a horrible noise. Jacked the car up and wiggled the front wheels..though I had forgotten to tighten the lug nuts it was so bad. Still regret I didn't take video. It was unbelievable...

Other sets with street miles I've gotten about 1 1/2 seasons out of.
