I drive the car everyday and it has been running fine. I just went to eat tonight and it ran fine but on the way home it started skipping really bad . Even at high speeds it runs like crap! Could it be the fuel filter, spark plugs or the spark plug wires? If I hold the gas just aliddle in park it idles up and down and if I give it just a tad more gas it idles really ruff. What is the best plugs to put in a 91 coupe and what is the best wires to have.

I like Taylor wires and NGK plugs.

If there hasn't been a tune up or filter replacement, I would go ahead and do it.

I would also remove and clean the throttle body.

I'll second what Bogus said, Taylors and NGKs are all I use.
Plugs, wires and fuel filters are maintainence items. Cleaning the TB is easy and inexpensive.
If you know these items are in good shape, your diagnosis will be a little easier.

I replaced the plugs and wires, plus I put a new fuel filter on and come to find out it was the EGR value. Now I have to take the intake off just to replace it. Now I can also clean the TB. Is there a easier way to replace the EGR value?

Mine has been off for a while- but what is in the way? I would think that after removing the AIR tube and removing the oil pressure sender you should be good to go. You may only have to rotate the sender out of the way- I wish I could remember.

it's reachable.... the EGR on a 92 doesn't require removing the intake.

a 10mm gear wrench will get it.

If anything you could pull the fuel rail but I would not pull the intake just to get at it.

sudden idle problems are (almost) always from unmetered air, weather internal (IAC-egr-intake manifold-MAS-tps-MAP) or external (hoses-intake manifold-exhaust)plugs clean to glazed., a vac gauge and multimeter is cheap and tells alot.

ignition problems usually backfire through the intake. exhaust/oil smells like gas, plugs may be wet.timing light and vac gauge tells alot

fuel usually either falls flat, pings, retards timing, white, blistered, speckled,or extreme- melted plugs,(lean).

(rich) black smoke on acceleration, backfiring through exhaust (esp. on decel) sooty plugs, cat is way hot, poor mileage and bucking. pressure gauge is cheap and tells alot. wide band o2 is not but tells all and getting cheaper all the time, don't forget a dirty, wet or restricted air filter can cause a too rich condition as well. you may only have some of these symptoms but they should fall into a category. take your time and have fun and remember there is no voodoo. if you do a (real) tune up first before you diagnose you will usualy fix the problem. Aloha
