Now that the nightmare is over I can post some pics of the MSD opti. Although with the coil issue I'm not nearly as excited about having this part on my car as i was about 3 weeks ago.

Anyway, here she is...time will tell if it's a better piece that OEM.

I installed one this spring, too, along with a coil - been happy with them so far. It certainly appears to be a stouter piece than the OEM.

The coil was bad out of the box, which caused my month long debacle trying to find out why the car wouldn't start.

wow. bad coils will do that... sucks.

hopefully, MSD was quick to cover that.

I would advise, tho, if you have issues with the coil, that the oem LT4 unit is pretty nice.

I'm getting ready to install the MSD but the factory shorted me some parts that I have to wait on. I have a 92 and understand the plug on the opti won't match the stock plug on the car. How do you handle that part of the installation?

I don't know if the factory changed the instructions since I installed my MSD but, hear's the wiring, it's easy to do.

Here's the wire connections:
92 LT1 MSD

black/red(stripe) to brown/yellow - low resolution
purple/white to brown/orange - hi res
yellow to red - 12 volt
black/pink to red/green - ground

The 5th wire in the LT1 harness is a ground/shielding wire. It's not needed on the MSD Opti. It doesn't connect to anything on the GM Opti either, just wraped around the other 4 wires for shielding.

There is an Optispark "test connector" along the heads / fuel rail on the passenger side of the motor. The plug that is different between the newer and older cars is the harness from that connector to the opti itself.

The MSD part comes with that part of the harness, so it should plug right into the connector along the fuel rail. It did on my '93.

EDIT: just found out the '92 is different than my car. Will leave post above for others reading.

I meant to call MSD but didn't get there. It's been a frenzy of activity getting the car back together for a track day tomorrow. If I didn't need coffee I'd be out there right now and not here...

I sent it back to Summit, I'll call MSD Tuesday. I am planning to see what they'll do for me since I bought $900 of parts (Opti, 6AL box, coil, custom harness) from them unecessarily.

The 92 has a different connector there instead of the 4 pin on the 93-96.
