pay someone.

plug wires on these are tricky... I suggest you take as much apart as you can.

There is a tricky plug wire loom under the AC compressor... I would actually remove the compressor and swing it out of the way.

I would also remove the fender covers, because that will make life easier to reach in there.

Also, if you haven't, replace the plugs at the same time (I HIGHLY recommend NGK).

What wires are you going with? Taylor or MSD are the best options.

I would advise anyone thinking about installing fat 8mm wires on these engines to forget it and get wires made to fit the original wire routing. can it be done? only if you have more time than brains. (dont ask how I know this) besides there are thin high perf. wires available nowadays. Aloha

Some folks remove the power steering pulley (need a simple puller to remove). I managed by just loosening the bolts for the pump and sliding it forward a bit.

I was able to do mine by removing the belt, idler pulley assembly and the panels over the inner control arms. Use the 8 MM wires with new looms from Autozone, Checker etc. My original looms were brittle and most broke pulling them out. If the plugs have a lot of miles this would be the time to replace them as already stated above. Later! Frank

Well, I can agree & disagree....I have done LT1 plugs & wires a couple of times now. You really dont HAVE to take the PS pulley off or the compressor. The belt being removed is a big help. It can be done as it sits though. I also managed to use all the original looms . Its very time consuming & your fingers & hands will ache, but it can be done.

8mm Taylors fit the stock looms just fine.

The puller costs $24, so that's next to nothing compared to the time it saves, especially if you use it more than once.
It also gives you much better access to the driver's side of the opti.
Performance Tool p/n 87022 available at any PepBoys, etc.
