I got my car buttoned up this morning after putting in some Xtreme Dynamat. I had found it on amazon.com a while back, I think it cost me about $140 for a 36 square foot kit and a door kit. The stuff is pretty easy to work with. I didn't attempt to cover every square inch of the car - I did the floors, doors, bulkhead behind the seats and most of the rear wheel wells - I have enough left to do the console, didn't feel like ripping that all out right now. I'll be ripping apart the interior again someday to do install a new sound system, so can add more later if need be. Anyway, I took it for a quick spin, and it seemed quieter and more solid - I was finally able to isolate a little squeak that had bugged me for a while, but could never figure out where it was coming from above the din. The funnest part of the job was getting a bunch of little cuts on my hands, and then wiping down panels with denatured alcohol before applying the deadener. I never quite remember to wear gloves at the right time

It was definitely noticeable then?
How much do you think the stuff weighed you put on? |

The shipping weight for the 36 sq. ft. pack is about 22 lbs., and the door kit is 6.8.
It was hot and muggy throughout the whole ordeal - projectile sweating was the norm. Coupled with being all cramped up to get into the tight quarters made for a real treat :-P |

Yeah, though from what I've read, this stuff is easier to work with when it's warm.
I did discover that the nice folks on the assembly line left me a few extra screws and bolts under the carpet. I also discovered moisture in the passenger footwell - not coolant, thank god. I'll have to chase that down and see where it's coming from. |

I hope that's it - I have a new weatherstripping kit sitting here, just waiting for ambition and time.

Mine used to leak into the footwell, too, so I'm hoping that's all it is for you.

FWIW, as long as you just give the panels a good once over with a wet rag to get the dust off, the dynamat will stick. The older stuff you had to clean REALLY good in order to stick, but you can save a little elbow grease with the new stuff. When are you going to put in your indash monitor?

I probably won't tackle the sound system until either this fall or next spring - too busy driving it ;-)

Now that I have a full commute under my belt, on a variety of surfaces, I'd have to say I'm quite pleased with the results. It made the car feel "newer", for lack of a better term. On one particularly nasty stretch of freeway that has a couple of frost-heaved joints, CRASH-RATTLE-SQUEAK was replaced by THUD with no drama. Besides isolating sound, I think a big part of what makes it work is that it seems to soak up a lot of the panel vibrations. When I crack it open again, I may add some to the doors, maybe try to fish in there and put some on the backside of the door skin.
