My first response is that powder coating interferes with heat transfer. I'd look for one that was not coated.

Why?

I am sure it's fine, but I don't see the need with stock.

If you wanted to get an auxillary cooler, I would consider an oil cooler first.

Check the products made by DeWitt - www.dewitts.com. That is where I would spend my cash; and did! I put one of their direct fit radiators in. Wonderful piece.

If you want to improve cooling, that's the way to start.

From there, get an oil cooler and you will be estatic. The other upside? As you enhance the car and driveline, the rest of what you have done will support that.

That is my philosophy, spend the money wisely so it will give you the best bang and the longest payback.

So from a person that has not dealt with auxillary cooling the benefits of an oil cooler would be:

More power
Longer lasting engine
cooler cockpit
lighter wallet
Other-please specify
None of the above

???

you will not get more power. But if you are building an engine (at some point) that will have more power, keeping it cooler is THE #1 goal. More horse power = more heat. No ifs ands or buts.

You are the one wanting to buy a transmission cooler - your radiator already has one! That's why I recommend the DeWitt radiator because the built in transmission cooler is better than OEM.

As for the benefits of an engine oil cooler:

1. More oil in the system. That is always a good thing.
2. Cooler oil. Cooler oil will not be as prone to thermal break down, hense, it lubricates better.
3. Better lube = longer engine life.

In short, whatever reasons you were thinking of getting the transmission cooler are the same reasons you would get an engine oil cooler.

it's not the keys... the blackberry, as with all other smartphones, don't allow for multiple browers to be open.

so you can't xpost as easily as you can on a regular pc.

I also went with this pan:
http://store.summitracing.com/partdet ... 6+400434+115&autoview=sku

I checked it out, guys have been using them for years with no problems, adds additional cooling..

I have both a tranny cooler and the pan.

It's the trans pan, has nothing to do with the converter.

Would it fit on my stock tranny then?

your radiator already has one!

The extra heat generated by a high stall convertor requires additional cooling if you plan on making your trans last..
Some bypass the radiator cooler all togehter and run standalone cooler.
Should your coolant temps exceed trans temps then it is possible to back feed heat into the trans with cooler in radiator.A heat exchanger works both ways

Do you have to hook up the pipes inside of it to anything or just bolt it directly on? Ground clearance sacraficed?

I think the pipes just capture air. The ground clearance is still higher than your exhaust.

I suspect it adds a couple of quarts to the system, too.

Two extra quarts of fluid, about 3/4 inch difference, maybe 1/2 inch. I forgot, but not much.

The pipes don't hook to anything, it's air cooled.

as a murderer of 700r4's due to overheating them under high stress operation - i say you can never keep the tranny too cool or have too big a cooler. i saw a study once on the exponential effect that heat - even only a 10* change - has on clutch pack lifeline, and it was quite enlightening. maybe i can dig it out.

now i run a huge tranny cooler on everything with an auto.
