I just recieved the extension tubes for my EM headers. Merle told me to connect the tubes to the collectors and then mount the converters behind the trans and tubes.

I have only seen that done on C5s and was wondering if anyone else has seen or done it this way?

Suggestions and comments welcome.

I also ordered a pair of Magnaflow mufflers, but just discovered that they may not be 3" inlets.

I would think that's just too far away for effective cat operation.

The stock L98 central cat does exist there, but gee, it's got both banks feeding it.

A lot of guys run the bullet cats behind the trans.
Any sort of performance application is going to have some hot EGT's to begin with.

EM did my installation for me and put the cats behind the tranny. I had to use heated O2 sensors, but passes emissions.

3" all the way back is like having an exhaust system that increases in diameter.

Exhaust cools, and slows down. The ideal exhaust system would actually taper down as it goes back. And it'd be as small as possible before measurable restricting power.

I think Vizard had something like 2.2 cfm / hp, which is actually slightly less than dual 2.5s on a 300rwhp car. 3" pipe is 44% larger than 2.5" pipe.

You don't have to maintain the collector pipe size.

Well .... It's moot now.

They just arrived in the "Big Brown Truck" and they look sweet!! 3" inlet. All Stainless with pipes that connect to the system. I think they call this an axle back system instead of the full Cat-back
