well i didn't get much done last night. but the current setup was a 355 lt4 with forged speed pro pistons, eagle rods, comp 280xfi, 1.6 pro mags, shorty headers, 52mm tb and a single fogger 150 shot. stepping up to a 12.3:1 385 with ported heads and a custom cam with EM long tubes and a dual fogger.

Sounds like a good combo man. That is some good CR, but I hear the LTx's can get away with a little bit more.
In saying that, I am curious why so high? comp 280xfi? I am not familar with that cam, What are the specs? I became more of a C5 guy after building the 402, but I want to get back into learning about the C4's, and what's new out there.... |

I'd give it some more duration @ 50 though... That would bring the meat of your power in a little later and help it digest the pump gas. Also with 113 lobe separation you are looking more for top end hp anyway.

I have seen LE cams on mostly camaro sites. His cams are no secret. His cams are based on huge ports hence the lower lsa. My friend dealt with him years ago. He took so much meat out of the casting, he had to go with a big stall. When asked what size? The answer he received was "about 220 cc's", He wasn't impressed, and I will never deal with LE.

In saying that I have seen some good combo's from LE, but it seems the combo's I have seen have needed quite the stall or a heavy gear. Tit for tat!! Call me out fashion, but I like power at 1800 all the way to redline.

like the power you get from your 330rwhp C4? sorry couldn't resist. apparently there is only one way to skin a cat, if you own a corvette you have to wax it everyday and never drive it and the internets sole reason is to justify your purchase and everyone else's setup that is different from yours is crap and just cause "your friend" had something that he didn't like nobody else on the planet will be happy regardless if its the same setup or not.. anything i forgot cause i am just a kid and all and i don't know these grown up things?

Hmm, a modified engine liking a lot of converter and gear? Who would have thought... That sounds a lot like ALL of the drag cars I have ever been around. You do know that a hard core drag set up will leave the line at nothing less than 6000RPM? Must just be those guys like to change parts out all the time...or that's part of being faster, who knows.
Oh and there are many good reasons to use a smaller amount of lobe separation and it doesn't stem from the port cc's; for a lot of applications that's what we install. |

the tight lobe center is to help pick up a lazy port is what he is saying. After a certain point the bigger the runner size the slower the intake charge hence a tighter lsa.
Back in the days of iron heads using a 104-108 lsa was common, it "helped" draw the air in. With whats out there today you can get away with something bigger as the port itself does more work if done correctly. |

You'll end up with a 6000RPM stall converter, 4.56 gears and a 106LSA....LOL. You'll need to go half throttle just to drive it out of your garage!!! |

Actually, from what I have been able to find, there are real race cars running very expensive heads, I'm talking $5-10K heads that like 107,108 LSA. Today. From what I understand, it is done to keep making power from 3500 and up. With such high quality, expensive parts, and the goal being to win races, I can't see how that can be attributed to a "sub standard" or "lazy" port. It's a matter of what the operational environment the motor is designed for and what the driver wants. I can seen in a 1/4 mile/street situation that you would want power at 3000, 3500 since the motor spends more time OVER 3500 than below it in that example. So it would appear to me that there is nothing wrong per se with a 107, 108 if your goal is to go really fast...either on the track, or in the 1/4 mile. If your goal is to have that infamous "seat of pants" in which case I'd say buy an L98, after all it pulls better seat of pants than an LT1/4. Pr0zac's goal is simply to go faster than anyone else in the 1/4 mile, and given that he will spend more time at 3500 than at 2000, it makes perfect sense to go with that separation, and by no means is a reflection on "lazy ports"...or sub standard heads, despite what some marketing group somewhere may say. That's what I have found out in my research... |
