Got my new AFR 227 comp eliminators today....they look great. Hope they perform just as well.

Flow numbers coming in the next day or two.... track numbers shortly after that.

Edit: Removed pics due to size

Very nice heads! I hope you have an equally decent cam, intake and shortblock to mate with them.

Are these the raised runner heads? And if so, will you be modifying the MRII to match, or having that "farmed out"?

No, its not a raised runner. I have enough motor below it but the cam is fairly mild at least for now it is.

So it is just a larger version of the AFR 210, ect? It used to be that the AFR227 was a raised port head that flowed very nicely, not to the level of the raised port 18° stuff, but quite good for 23° heads.

The AFR 227 was always a 60/40 valve spacing low port 23 degree head.

The 210 uses standard valve spacing.

The AFR 215RR was the raised runner 23 degree head (like the GM/Pontiac 867).

I talked to Rick at PRI and he said the regular SBC 215's are almost ready. I'm hoping they will bring it back some day for the LTX with the new 8mm valves and such... If they do I just might have to build a bigger LTX.

Beach Bum- Nice heads. Look forward to seeing those track times.

Yeap, correct. On the spacing, I'm running offset harland sharp rockers.... no big deal.

Cool! With heads like that you can use a fairly mild cam and still make huge power. You are going to be FAST. Guess you will be putting the tranny to the test. Did you get it yet?

Will,
Thanks for the info. I knew there was an AFR head that was available that was bigger than what I ran that required considerable mods to make it work with the MRII. I had looked at bigger heads, but decided for my goals (with large boost) that the AFR's I had selected would work fine.

Thanks again for clarifying.

Beach,
Any thoughts on using shaft rockers? To me, this is the key to longevity in a large SR cam application. I know that you are going HR, but I feel certain that the cam will be decent and the shaft rockers may give you that added insurance (plus accurate valve movements due to increased valvetrain stability).

Again, nice heads!

Aaron, yeah, I will definitely go shaft when I convert to a solid roller cam, which will happen before too long. With this Hyd roller, I just kind of want to see how far I can take it....But, I am not going to run them with a hyd roller, no reason other than I already ordered the Harland Sharps and they're not too expensive. A "huge" part of the reason I am going Hyd roller at this point in the build is the IRS.....once I get that upgraded to a decent solid, all bets are off and I'll be shooting for upper 600's and even 700 hp with the motor.

The Flow #'s are in: Went to Faerman Racing Engines here in Houston on their Superflow700 flow bench, the following are the flow numbers as compared to advertised.

Intake:

Lift.....advertised.....actual......difference
.200........153..........154.........+1
.300........214..........208.........-6
.400........265..........264.........-1
.500........298..........304.........+6
.600........315..........325.........+10
.650........318..........325.........+7

Pretty decent #'s if you ask me.... where else can you get an aluminum cylinder head that flows over 300 cfm by .500 lift and 325 by .600 for 2 grand ? I flowed a little higher, but was at the stall point for them.

Exhaust:

Lift.....advertised.....actual......difference
.200........120..........114.........-6
.300........167..........165.........-2
.400........214..........205.........-9
.500........230..........223.........-7
.600........238..........232.........-6
.650........241..........236.........-5

What is amazing on the above, is that the exhaust ports are rated with a 1 7/8" pipe as most are, we didn't use a pipe extension..... as most know that play with this stuff, if you do not use a pipe, your numbers will be hurt by somewhere around 10-20 cfm at any given lift. Thus, I am very happy with the exhaust as well.... if you're conservative, add 10 cfm per lift above for my real numbers.

I didn't pour them, but Tony said the AFR 227 comp eliminators usually pour in that 222-224 area......

In my opinion, I think this might be the best street/strip cylinder head made for a big cube sbc dollar vs cfm.

Nice numbers! I am glad that they were quite respective relative to the AFR advertised numbers. Are you in Houston now? If so, we can have an offline discussion regarding the Faerman Racing on Pinemont.

Again nice numbers.

Hi Aaron,

Yes, I live here in Houston now. I really do not know anything about Faerman Racing Engines other than they have a flow bench and engine dyno..... I am new here, I do not know who anybody is in the performance or racing circles yet. I do know that Da Vinci carbs has moved in with them and are sharing shop space. They had quite a few engines they were building when I was there and he showed me his 1/2 pro-stock pro mod 4 cylinder he built that runs in the 7's..... pretty neat I thought.

I found them through SuperFlows website which has a map for finding flow benches.... pretty cool website feature I thought. Feel free to PM me.

Those are some badass heads. Do you see any problems with their 60/40 valve layout as far as valve releifs, or do the pistons need any special fly cutting. I haven't used any 60/40 heads yet, but am probably going to try some AFR 235's when they are released for my 450. It sounds from what I have heard that it's not a problem. My JE pistons have valve releifs that match the valves pretty good, instead of some pistons that the intake and exhaust valve releifs are the same size.

I've measured, and I don't think I'll have to do anything, but won't know until I have set-up and checked. I have massive 2.10" intake valves, but the reliefs are oversized a little. Couple that with my short cam lift and I think they'll be fine. I have only heard of once of one guy having to fly-cut or swap pistons... hopefully I am not one of them.

I did order .050" offset harland sharps, thus I should be able to manage decent geometry on the valvetrain.... I'd put on right now, but haven't ordered a head gasket yet. Any recommendations for this Jim ? Who's do you run ? I have a 4.165" bore....

btw, I too was waiting on the 235's..... Tony said sometime in March I think, and you know how that goes with most manufacturers, would mean spring before I got it running, so I broke down and went ahead with the 227's.

Tony's floating numbers like 340+ cfm with those.... would have been worth the wait I think.

Hey Beach, sounds like a killer combo. I don't think you would have a problem with Felpro or Cometic. I use Cometic for more extreme appications. Above 15lbs boost. I have been running a 200 shot on Felpro's with no issues for years. But Cometics need all the machine work perfect, which wouldn't be a problem for you. I have run both with a 200 shot and haven't had any problems. I guess it's just the Cometics cost more.

You might want to put some attention on your miniram since your heads outflow a gasket matched 1206 miniram. Your to the point where your miniram won't be able to keep up with your heads. You can pm me for some idea's.

The Miniram will only be gasket match ported in the beginning, I'll undoubtly take it back off and port it after that as I've done with other intakes I've owned. I know that the MR is a question mark with this many cubic inches.... it'll probably govern me a bit, but I'll fix that right up in the future.

Do you port them ? I would be interested in talking with you later this spring about that if you do.

Aaron, I PM'd you back.

Here are the flow results of some Nascar Cup engine cylinder heads as posted on another board by a well known on the national scene CNC porter.

@.200" 142/113
@.300" 222/163
@.400" 295/206
@.500" 346/235
@.600" 375/252
@.700" 382/260
@.800" 390/264
@.900" 389/265

Damn.... I'm short 50 cfm by .600 lift !!! I'm going to have to ask for a refund.....

Just thought I would show what those Sunday roundy racers have under the hood...... I don't remember how much power those cup motors make, but I think it was in the 700-800 HP area without a restrictor plate, but not sure.
