Hi Guys, I've been away for awhile and I was looking over some of the stuff going on around here. Pretty cool.
One of the last posts I did was about a lifelong friend that had past away suddenly. I'm still dealing with that loss. Over the years that Scott and I were friends, we did a lot of automotive work. Part of that was on his '68 Chevelle SS396. Recently, I was able to secure that Chevelle
to keep it from rotting in a field or being stripped to the frame, as his home was in the weeks following his death.

They're not too good, but I thought I'd share a few pics with you guys. FWIW, this is a true "138" SS396. One of those that originally came with a bench seat, and a column shifted powerglide trans. The only power option it came with is power steering. It has manual 4-wheel drum brakes.
I think that this car was a real stripper when it was built, which, oddly makes it rare today. Anyway, here are some pics...

You can't get a much closer connection to your friend than that. As you work on that prject you'll share a part of him that only you can truly appreciate.

Well-said - that will be a wonderful reminder of your friendship.

Congrats on being able to save your friend's car. I'm happy that it's going to you and that you can give it the attention and love that it needs. You'll always have a piece of nostalgia that you can look at and remember your friend by, aside from just the good memories. I can't wait to see it once you've got it cleaned up.

Matthew

PS - did you ever work out all the other issues with the vette?

I'm sure you will do right by the car. Your friend would be happy that it's in your garage.

Wow. What a weird beast...

I am sure you will honour your friend. First off, taking over that car is a sign of utter respect for him. A great start!

But a powerslide on a big block???

The Vette has been started a few times now, albeit with open headers. I still need to remove the MSD unit and
get to a shop for a y-pipe, but it starts right up and
sounds great. The 1st start-up it had a bit of idle trouble, but after I shut down and waited a few minutes, it
idled like a champ.
