I showed it to my just graduated daughter who just moved back from California because she could not find work out there. She said "looks like I did the right thing." It does mean that 90% of the people are working so we have to keep it in perspective. Hard for newbies to get a start though.

Finding a job takes work and networking. Took my son 4 months to find a full time job down here. He was unemployed in Jacksonville for over a year and 4 months. Luckily he's doing fairly well right now. He's working part time plus the full time job playing catch-up.

Sad, I wonder what our standard of living looks like over say the last 50 years and projected into the future.

The playing catch up is the tough part. Seems the catch up part takes at least twice as long as the get behind part.

I believe it. Endeavor to persevere. If you get a 'break' take full advantage of it.

But, the guberment is doing so much with the stimulus to help us .

Just like the they're helping with morgage negotiations.
On the news today:

The funding: 75 Billion
Number of people applying: 760,000
Number of successful negotiations: 31,000

I believe there are jobs, but people aren't willing to take the pay cut or step down to take what's available. Unemployment might pay more than that pay cut, but you won't be the first one picked for a job if you've been out of work for two years, and unemployment won't last forever. Obviously that's a tough pill to swallow if you're in a mortgage and car payment and accustomed to spending what you used to make.

America is overqualified. It would be interesting to see the employment rate for various income levels.

I had a hard time finding a job out of college, partly because there wasn't many out there, and partly because I didn't know what I was doing and also wasn't ambitious enough to follow every lead. Not having a job for even the previous 6 months was the hardest part of the interview.

I eventually started paying my dues at a temp agency and was able to stay full time through them and moved on to a place that would have hired me permanently, although by then I was finally able to find a professional job. I still ran my credit cards up pretty far even though I was renting half a townhouse at $400/mo and with no car payment.

Generally? I would think our standard of living has improved over the last 50 years.

I think back to my childhood (I am 44) and I see improvements that make me not long for them good ole 1970s.

Cell phones... DVD... Internet... better heat/AC in homes... better TVs... Cable/FIOS/Dish...
