I've had my Ruby since mid July, and probably put about a thousand miles on it. Almost all of that is daytime driving. Just last night, I was driving around with a friend, and was messing with my iPod in the center console.
My friend put his hand under the rear view mirror, and his hand was dimly lit in orange. He commented on it, and I started looking for the off switch. Didn't find one. So, I'm guessing that is always on if the lights are on? Kinda like the lighting in the doors for the handle and the window switches and such? Pretty cool! I just can't tell you how much I dig this car. It is not perfect, by any means, but it runs very well, doesn't seem to have many squeaks or rattles, and goes where I point it with enthusiasm. And for $9,000? WOW! I watch new car commercials these days, and I'm always thinking to myself: My car looks nicer than that, gets better gas mileage, has more horsepower, and was paid for in cash. On top of that, it has been reliable as well! Other than being a bad choice for a first car for a youngster, or a family needing more seats, I can't imagine a better car, period! I took my 17 year old daughter for her first ride in the car last week. We were driving up the highway, and she was saying "Your car is cooler than that one, and that one, and that one...." I do the same thing, honestly. On top of that, the insurance on my Vette is the same as the '01 Suzuki Esteem that I am keeping around for my daughter. It costs about the same to register it in Colorado. (We go by purchase price and age of vehicle out here. If I had bought the car new, my first year's registration would have been about $400) I know Vettes aren't supposed to be cheap to own, but so far, I've been driving one of the least expensive, and trouble free cars I've ever owned. LOVE IT! |

NOT!
She can drive this one once she has a little more experience, and can drive a stick... Maybe. |

Sticks are easy to drive. I learned on a lawn tractor... it was the motion I got used to, and the effect of the clutch releasing. It wasn't huge power, but it was a lesson.... one that I am sure transitioning to a real car was invaluable.
It's amazing to me how much tighter the 92/93 C4 is over the earlier versions. I am also not convinced that getting a Vette for a young person is a bad idea... how old are you Black86? What is different between you at 19 and his daughter at 17? two years ain't jack. It's an individual thing... kid by kid, case by case. Personally, I woulda done ok with a Vette at 17... but my buddy Chris didn't do well with a CRX, so I know he woulda been a dead man with a Vette. |

the idle screw is a fixed setting. if there is a stalling or idle problem, something else is wrong with the throttle body - carbon build up in the IAC housing is my guess.
Which means his fix masked the problem... and didn't fix anything. |

the idle screw is a fixed setting.... No C4 has an "idle screw". Youre refering to the "minimum air flow screw", and NO its not a fixed setting. Read the service manual which will tell you how to correctly set for minimum air flow. Any time the engine is moddified or base idle speeds are changed in the ECM calibration, the "minimum idle screw" should be properly set. Quote: "]only an idiot adjusts the idle screw. I hate to say that... but its true. Thats an insane comment to make. For a start, there isnt one, idle is controlled by the ECM and that screw has nothing whatso ever to do with it, and for seconds, a modded engine will want a different minimum flow setting to a bone stock engine. That is common sense. I quite sure what you really meant to say is "only an idiot adjusts the Minimum air flow screw without following the correct diagnostic and adjustment procedures as stated by the service manual..." |

Yes, the dim light on the underside of the mirror is a floodlight to illuminate the shifter, cupholder/ashtray/lighter area, etc. It'll be on whenever you have parking lights or headlights on. Live well, SJW |

SJW is correct, think they call it "mood lighting", or at least they do on BMWs, cool feature.
Never knew about it until I sw my hand under the mirror at night while adjusting it. |

Just firing up the car sets MY mood! I got to drive mine today for the first time in a few weeks. Waa-Hoo! As low-key of a guy as I am, I feel obliged to hit triple digits once the car is warmed up, if it has been awhile since my last ride in the Vette. Guess I'm just a dumb kid at heart.

Speaking of lighting, is a 85 supposed to light at the A/C controls?

I love that mood lighting. I was driving an all nighter from PA to TN a few months ago and it kept my fuzzy dice lit the whole way down. Very cool.
