Hello, I am new to Corvette Guru, having just joined today. I had been looking for information to help me deal with the replacement of my heater core on my 1987 Corvette when I found this site. Browsing thru I see a wealth of shared information here from other Corvette owner's. Hopefully this will be a pleasant experience, not replacing the heater core, I mean the website. Attaching a few older photos of my 1987 (& 1973 I had, now sold) Corvette and will attach a few new ones once I get it back outside. Even here in San Francisco not every day is a good day for bring the ride out for some fun.

Thanks for the comments and the Welcome.

Bullet was filmed so beautifully but unfortunately they jumped all over the place in filming the chase scenes. They jump from on location in town to another making it look like they are going from point A to point B. Some of the scenes in the chase actually are filmed in Daly City, which borders our city limits. So, NO I have not done the chase scene.

I have broken a shock or 2 however.

And yes, I do have the 700R4 Auto. Made sense to me to not burn my clutches all the time. Besides, it was my beautiful wife who found this Corvette for me and insist that I buy it. Have to love a wife who is so understanding of her man's need for a little fun in their lives.

The hood is a replacement to the damaged one from a hit and run driver. Stock is fine, Hi-rise is best. Then I had the body shop paint on the stripes as they replaced the entire front end of the Corvette.

One last item, I had recieved so many tickets for not having a front license plate I finally relented and put a front plate on. Not that you would see it in the picture I just attached.

Let that be an inspiration to all of us. Actually, my wife is cool like that. She likes to drive them as much if not more than I do.

Would it not be nice if all wives were cool like that about most things? Mine is, except when it comes to taking time away from her.

I look forward to any help with the heater core as I am headed to the garage to start in on it now. Hopefully I will finish in time to get to work tomorrow. For that matter to watch Auburn beat Oregon tonight in this crazy BCS Bowl thing.

If not, I will enjoy working on my Corvette until it's done.

I will be blug Greg... the heater core is NOT an easy job.

I don't want to go into in this thread, but post the question in C4 Tech. I compartmentalize the sections for easier searching. If we get a good tech thread here, how can one find it in tech? It's not there! oopsie.

I will be more than happy to fill in the blanks.

After reading so much about the heater core replacement on C4 Corvettes I have no dillusions that this is an easy job. Perhaps it is a bigger job than one normally would take on.

At my age and with my expense account being what it is (I saw the thread where the gov't worker was being laid off, I lost my job due to cutbacks in early Nov. 2010) I have no choice but to take this task head-on.

As much as I love working on my cars I had to scale back on working on my own cars since the late 80's, with all these new computerized things running around.

Whatever happened to the simple muscle car that one can do most of their own work on? As long as I wasn't trying to bore, stroke, port or polish anything I was a happy camper with bolt-on improvements.

I will get back to the C4 Tech Forum and see what is up. Thanks.

BTW, is there any Corvette club in the Bay Area? I ran across 1 or 2 but neither have ever responded in the past few years. Not to my emails or their website with my inquires. Oops, I see a membership page, I will go there.

Yes, I have the 700R4. A stick is nice when I am racing but for daily driving in SF, auto is the best way to go.

Welcome on board! I like your car. That dark red color has always been a favorite of mine. Lots of good info here on C4's and all the other C's also. Hang around you will like it.

Man, that is one sharp looking C4. Whoever did your paint work seems to have really done an outstanding job!!!

I eventually have to replace my heater core too. I've been putting it off.

Welcome to the group Greg. I ran into a leaky heater core 2 summers ago in the UP of Michigan. Put some new formula Bars Leak in the engine and core has never leaked since. Matter of fact I totally forgot about it until your post. Wow should I replace it or disturb the force? Heater and engine are fine. No over heating and no smell of antifrezze in the passenger side .
