Since I have to pull my intake manifold off again I am thinking of doing the LT1 intake conversion on my L98. I found one for sale that is already converted to work on the L98.

Has anyone else here done this?

Do I have to swap ECM?

I'm obviously going to do more research before I make a final decision.

Thanks,
Jeff

He had the distributor hole built up and then machined so that it's a nice flat surface. Sounds like he did it right.

shouldn't there be a minor angle to the dist mount boss??? It has to do with the way the intake is cast or something.

You won't need to change the ECM, perhaps retune, yes, but not replace.

Jeff, I would be interested in the intake if you passed up on it.

you could get away with just swapping the intake. a retune would be ideal.

Normally yes but from what he told me he had material added and it machined at the angle so that angled spacers wouldn't be necessary.

I wonder if I could use the fuel rail covers with this swap. I know that I'd have to cut them to go around the distributor.

Jeff - I will let you know. He wants $430 with the AFPR, Injectors, Remote T-stat housing and fuel rails.

Ok, cool. That sounds like a fair deal. The AFPR is $100, the fuel rails ain't cheap, either.

What injectors?

lesson learned... snooze = looze... Sad...

You can do the conversion yourself, used LT1 intakes are not that expensive.

@Jeff - FYI - I was just at my local U-Pick-It lot. There is a 1993 Camaro Z28 in there, with the manifold. I can get the manifold, with rails (and injectors for what those POS's are worth), for $50.00.

Let me know, I am going back tomorrow w/tools.

The knowledge contained within this forum never ceases to amaze!

I am not sure how I would do the angled spacer though. Looks like LT1intake.com went away...

The one you are looking at, it's not through RedRose on the other forum is it? The one I got from him years ago was advertised much as you describe; distributor hole done, ready to bolt on and go. The distributor depth was incorrect, I didn't check it, and the oil pump drive was only engaged by about .010. The drive let go at 6K on the dyno and I lost oil pressure. That's the reason there is a 383 in my car now.

Regardless, be sure to check the depth on the distributor. A simple paste on the cam gear is all it would have taken for me to see there was a problem.
