I usually use orbitz to find the flight I want, because they have a bunch of airlines one place, then I buy from the airline's website, and also check ones like southwest that they don't have listed.

I haven't found orbitz to be any cheaper. The priceline one is just plain annoying to use, I gave up on it quickly.

I saw on the news that a bunch of airlines have dumped some of these sites bit I don't remember specifics.

Yea, on checking Southwest, they don't make you pay for one bag.

I sometimes look on yahoo travel or other sites like that, but after my last bad experience with orbitz I'll only buy through the carrier website.

I just went through the Travelocity site. We're only going for 5 days so no checked baggage. 2 for the overhead. Didn't book it just priced it. Not bad not great. Jet Blue non stop out of Ft Lauderdale $638 including travel insurance for two. I'll keep hunting a little more.

I had used Expedia for my last trip. The prices are always about the same for all of them. If SW flies to where we are going we use them. They only sell the tickets themselves, and have done a wonderful job.

Tommy, where are you headed?

Some airlines have a focus on certain corridors. I don't know if Southwest has a strong East Coast network but I'll look and report back my findings.

Miami-Boston round trip.

My wife has her own travel ideas. I'll update with those later.

I found a car with Budget for the 5 days for $136. Beat Hertz and Avis by about $50. Like I said, I'll tell you everything we book when the ink dries on the papers.

OK, here's the scoop. My wife has a ton of miles so we booked it through the credit card miles program. We were going to pay for it with the miles but in the time it took me to find a hauler, the airline ticket price went up $60 making the difference a non issue between booking ourself or using the credit card travel program. Scored a good deal with Alamo car rentals on the 4 day rate. Also payed for with miles. Total trip cost $638 air, $136 car rental and $926 for auto transport fee. Add food and entertainment, airport parking, and gas and the total is about $2200 on this 5 day mission / mini vacation. A sendimental journey ....... In miles it was 70,000 for air and 15,000 for the car. There you have it.

Yeah, southwest is great but their flights in the north and east are somewhat limited. Probably just a coincidence.
