Buy one at harbor freight with a coupon from the sunday paper then sell it. Or look on CL for a used one.

Found one! The guy that is buying my old block has a hoist and a stand that he will lend me.

BTW - I went with the 1010 head gaskets, standard vol oil pump and the double roller timing set.

up charge for the head gaskets $50
Up charge for the dbl roller $20

Your builder probably knows this, but I would want to make sure the set will fit under the stock cover (the one from Summit in r-d's post says it won't) as there is no clearance behind the water pump for a deeper cover, on mine anyway. My dbl. roller from Jeg's (I think it's a rebranded Cloyes, p.n. 555-20145) fit under the stock cover but needed a little clearance grinding on the block.

He already mentioned that he would have to clearance the block alittle. That makes me feel more confident in his knowledge.

Finally got to meet the guy last night. He is a very knowledgable guy, I spent 2 hours up there talking to him. I learned a couple of things about the internals of an engine. Unfortunetly my block was still at the machine shop. He showed me the pile of parts that was waiting for my block to get back and we added the pile of parts that I had in the trunk of the VW.
He has a sweet 86 that he built a 383 for and painted Atomic Orange. It was beautiful and sounded bad-ass.

I couldn't hardly sleep last night.

Done...

I think I need to do some datalogging and have Mick look it over, it idles a little funky and it smells like it's running rich.

Plus when I pull up to a stop it sounds like it wants to die. The LT4 hotcam isn't that aggressive is it?

We had fun with the bellhousing bolts, found out that a 9/16" ratchet wrench, a 24" extension and a ratchet that pivots at the head are all very valuable for this job.

Thank you guys for all the advice and encouragement.

GURU'S ROCK!!

Congratulations on a job well done!

One suggestion I would like to make is to get some spark plug heat boots - I like the ones I have.

As far as the idle, did you do the base idle / TPS reset procedure? If so, you might need to bump it up 50-100 rpm at the base with the bigger cam.

Now bask in your glory

I'm not sure what the tps reset procedure is. Do I just check the voltage across the pins or is there something else I need to do?

Where did you get your boots?

I checked the timing again today it's right on 6 btdc.

Jeff, I didn't forget you. I'm just not at home on my computer with the correct procedure.

Boots can be found at Summit for a good price.

There is no TPS re-set method as the 90-91 is non-adjustable. In this case it's use reflects % of throttle angle unlike the MAF cars (m.v. vs. fueling in some aspects).
If refering to Min Air adjust, follow the same as I posted over in Big Grizzly's thread..The reason includes your idle being higher/modified than stock threfor counts need to be approx. 40 (your scan showed 68 P/N @operating temp).

Mick is right. I forgot what year you had, the TPS is not adjustable. The ECM checks the voltage at start up and adjusts based on that. You can still ohm it to make sure it's in range. So if you already set your min air and IAC you're in business.

Thanks Mick, I will do that tonight.

Spent an hour fooling with the one hood latch mechanism last night since it decided to stop releasing.

Matthew, thanks for trying to help. TPS volts showed .57 when datalogging I think.

I can't wait to start driving it!!!

Impressive! Bet you'll be glad when everything's sorted out.
There will always be something to fool around with, like a balky hood release. Keeps it interesting.

That is interesting that it says the TPS idle voltage for 90-91 should be .72 mine is at .57 according to datamaster.

Thanks for posting it Matthew.

Didn't get to mess with the car last night. Had homework. Why did I take a summer class?

Pulled the IAC out last night to make sure it wasn't full of carbon. It was nice and clean.

Drove the car up to operating temp and then messed with the IAC counts. Got them down to 40. The in gear idle is much better now.
