So one of the Army Sgts that Elsie works with has an 04 6spd that he got run off the road a month ago or so and it somehow killed one of the fans..... Runs hot when the AC is on.... Of course only one fan is running.

Seems the AC fan (drivers side)... the plastic blades had come off the metal hub attached to the elect motor.... Must be from the impact I assume.

Elsie offered up the garage and my wrenching skills to fix it.

Thank god it wasn't a 92-96 C4.

The 04 was a really easy to work on. We had it all done in about 45mins.

At any rate once I dropped the sway bar down, the fan assembly dropped right out the bottom with a little rotation to clear the lower hose. He bought a replacement on Amazon which was made in Tawian and every edge on that SOB was razor sharp. The new one had to be rotated a bit to clear the lower hose on the passanger side but once that side was up high enough to clear the hose it slid right in place and I was able to pull it down to snap it right in the tank retainers.

Like I said very easy car to work on. I might want to buy one of these C5's some day.

I've never worked on one. But after getting fed up with the C4 I'm ready....

This is how I look at it... Jason at Vette 2 Vette told me that it takes 3 guys 7 days to pull a C4 down to parts...

It take 2 guys 2 or 3 days to pull a C5 down to parts.

The people who engineered the C5 and continued to refine it with the C6 took all the shortcomings of the previous gens and fixed them. I don't know who they were but I know they were car guys. Didn't I read on a post it was Motor Trends car of the year when it came out......

In the short time I have had mine I have nothing bad to say about it and it makes me smile a lot as I continue to discover its secrets.

Ha! Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves, here.

I'll race you in a fuel pump swap!

C4 - 30 minutes including a beer break

C5/6 - 30 hours with no breaks, not even to pee.

Guess who just did this on his C6...

That's one of the few exceptions. I'll take a C4 to change the FPump any day.

Marcus, I think the 84 was MT car of the year too.

Jon was that 30 hours????? or 3.0 hours? The fuel pumps on the C4's were relativly easy to change compared to the newer cars.

The C4 was a tech marvel back in that era....I had forgot about the COTY.

30. Although realistically it was probably more like 20. The funny thing was, all the posts about it online mentioned what a PITA it is, but I assumed that was for the shadetree mechanic, it couldn't be that hard for someone like me. Ha! What a fool. IIRC this same jackass asked himself "what could possibly go wrong?" when contemplating taking his street car to the race track in the first place.

Of course I went farther than most and replaced only the $129 pump instead of the full $404 bucket assembly. That probably added 5 hours of frustration.

It took 4 evenings last week and every freakin' step was a nightmare. I'm including the three trips to Autozone to find a fuel line puller that worked, since none of mine did. Quick disconnect, my ass!

I know folks who can drop the transaxle in a C5 more quickly than I can swap a battery in my C4 ...

I wonder if the C6 pump is a lot different then the C5. When we were putting on the Corsas I had to remove the covers that sheild the twin gas tanks and all the fittings were right there for the pumps. I thought after you figure out how to drain the gas out that everything should just pull out.........I might be wrong about that.....

Ok.....I was wrong about that.......that looks like a major undertaking. I wonder why they had to make it so damn hard to do. Do the LS engines run a lot more fuel pressure?
