Were floor mats ever standard or optional on C4s?

yes. OEM mats were either factory installed or dealer options. I don't ever remember there being and RPO for them.

My guess? Dealer installed. And they were GM mats. I find the OEM GM mats were much stronger than the Lloyds mats.

Then again, the set I won a couple years ago have held up pretty good.

They were always standard - and they do hold up pretty well: my original set on my 1985 is still presentable enough for judging, though I have another set for driving around.

Who sells floor mats with the velcro strip?
The mats in my car are pretty beat, and have a velcro strip that meshes with a strip on the floor. That's not custom is it?

Nope, that's stock. Let me go out and take a look at my mats ...

I got mine from Ecklers a couple of years ago:

http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?pf_id=35863&dept_id=1593

- they're a good color match and they have the velcro. A skilled NCRS judge will flag them as not original because (get this) the rubber nibs on the back are too large.

Thanks.
I'm not into NCRS, but I thought the velcro strip to be a good idea. I like the mats with the C4 logo.
It's my car, I'll have it the way I want it. :thumbright:

BTW, any idea why Lloyd's mats are so much more? The mats you pointed out are 52.99, the Lloyd's mats are 89.99. Is it just the stitching?

It's all good - just because I want my C4 as original as possible doesn't mean I think that's the right choice for everyone. I just figured I'd mention the differences in case it matters to somebody ...

Nothing wrong with that. I'm ok with however anyone wants to use their car. It is a challenge to make it all original, but I don't have that kind of attention to detail. Not only that, I don't mind personalizations that make it mine. But I'm not a racer. If you hear the racers talk, anyone who doesn't race is not a real Corvette enthusiast.
There's room for everyone under the tent.

Bought some mats from Mid America, seem decent except there is no velcro, they move around a bit. anyone make them with that strip or is it better to go buy some and glue it on the back?
Saved the original mats while they are still good..

The mats I ordered from Ecklers couple of years ago had the Velcro.

Didn't know that. My car came with mats that match the carpeting pretty well. They don't have a logo on them. How can I tell if they are original equipment or replacements? Mine 'vert's a '94. If the mats are original, I will replace them with aftermarket for driving around like you do, and save them for judging as well.

My 92 uses the velcro strip. I don't know what other years offer that. I do know that Lloyd mats use the strip.

I got a kick out of that one! Nibs too big. What about the rubber heel pad that was original on 84's?

NCRS manual itself is a JOKE. I can think of at least 6 things off the top of my head that were wrong with the NCRS Manual I bought at Corvettes at Carlisle. The problem was the original survey was done by a guy with an 86 in NJ. I remember writing him about a lot of the things that were wrong with it but got no response. I havent seen the newest version but I hope its a bit more accurate!

The first versions of the manual are always off - any self-respecting judge's C4 judging manual is covered with annotations by now. Part of the problem was that the folks writing the manual believed GM in that they had better control of their change management than they had for previous generations.

They didn't ...

I don't know when the change came, but my '95 has a hook on the floor and the mats have a hole that lines up with it.

I've been real pleased with the Lloyd's mats for my '88. Velcro strip on the back.
