In the D44 rebuild tech thread, I alluded to the fact that I was also building a new engine for my buddy Rich (93 ragtop) who absolutely grenaded his heads/cammed stock bottom end LT1 a few years ago.

Specs on engine.

385 Gen II LTX.
GM block fitted w/Eagle 4 bolt billet splayed main caps
Compression ratio - 11.3 SCR

Scat Crankshaft 3.75" stroke 4340 Forged crank
Scat Rods 6" length 4340 Forged I Beam
Ross Pistons 4.040" bore 2618 Forged flat top 2 eyebrow
Perfect Circle Rings 1/16 1/16 3/16 moly top, napier second, std tension oil PN315-0036

AFR Cyl Heads 210cc Eliminator Street Port PN-1057
GM LT4 Intake Manifold - ported by rklessdriver
Holley TB 58mm

(Mike) Jones Cam Designs camshaft
EHR72360/73360
280/284 Advertised
232/236 @ .050
.360/.360 (.593 w/1.65)
108 ICL 112LSA

GM LS7 roller lifters
Scorpion Rocker Arms 1.65 ratio
Cloyes timing chain pn 9-3045

EM Headers 1 3/4" primary
GM factory LT1 2 3/4"exhaust system w/Magnaflow axel back

The car.
1993 Corvette Convertible
GM 4L60 trans
Vigilanti Stall Converter 3000RPM
D44 IRS 3.73 gears and tuned posi by rklessdriver

Dyno Sheet. 463RWHP and 398RWTQ. As you can see HP peaked at 6300RPM carried to 6600RPM and then the valve train gave up which is about what I expected given the aggressive camshaft lobes, high ratio rockers and the OTB AFR 8019 spring package.

Now these numbers are on E85 fuel - Which I was under the assumption was only going to be used for emissions testing as Rich lost his hook up for the smog testing... I did not build this engine to take advantage of E85 fuel. Kinda wish I had known - What I know now - When I was building it....

The tuner is working on the 93 octane tune as we speak and should be done by the end of the week... he said it would probally make about 440-ish RWHP on gasoline.

That said these numbers are fantastic thru an automatic w/3000 stall converter. This car should be very fast.

Hey, I am proud of the motor!!! There is a lot to tell about this build so far. First, Will really put a lot of extra time in this motor porting the intake, smoothing oil passages, checking and re-checking everything. Will spent a lot of time shopping for good deals on parts as well as my machine work. I would have never got to this point without his help. Will really knows his stuff!!
The new version of AFR heads are improved. These 210 heads flow 311 cfm. Will specd the cam to match these heads.
Ed Hutchings (hi-tech tuning) has had to work a few bugs out of the tune. 1. reworked the idle passage through the TB to help get the split blm's in order. 2. Found out that my used 30lb injectors were just not flowing near what they should. Ed feels they are at about half capacity. He has replaced them with a set of 60lb injectors that he had on loan. Said with the e85 they are not all that too big. Ed assures me that he can tune the motor on 60's without any problem.
My intention has never been to run e85. As Will said, its come about as a way to pass emissions. I will have 2 chips. 1 for e85 and 1 for pump gas.
Cant wait to get it back and this spring go to the track. My previous best was 11.71 and 117.3mph in the qtr. and 7.51 and 93.75mph in the 1/8. I am now making exactly 100 more rwhp and 20 more ft. tq.
Any guesses on what my new best will be?

That is an absolutely perfect Torque & HP curve !

Flat torque curve = Rising HP curve = Happy Corvette Owner

That motor is good for easy low 11's and even 10's if you can coerce some 60's out of it.

Congrats !!

Hey thanks Beach-
I spent alot of time tweeking (modeling/simulating) these cam lobes and cyl heads for smooth useable power... not to mention driveability.

It's never a bad thing when you make a little more power than you anticipated and I'd be really pleased to see him break into the 10's with the car.

I know he's excited for racing season to start... Brand new engine and a brand new posi in the D44.

I'm sure Rich or myself will keep everyone updated when he goes to the track.

Will

I notice you're an automatic.... that will make it easier.

In moderate to good air, I don't think it will be a problem with sticky tires and a converter that flashes up to around 4000 rpm. (Might only be a converter rated at 3000-3600 rpm, but flashes up to around 4000 rpm on the first hit) Thats a lot of power... if you focus on getting your 60 ft down to the low 1.4 area, the 10 second slip will more than likely easily happen.

As a comparison note, Phil Tobins LT-1 (before it was a big block), he made similar HP to you at one stage. I believe he hit low 1.4 60's and 125-128 mph and a best et of 10.6x He did have a looser converter than you have.

Good luck !! Rather you get there or not, the fun is trying to get it.

I have run a best of 11.71 at 117.3mph. But that was with a 4.09 gear. I now have a 3.73 gear but the car is making exactly 100 hp and 20 ft.lbs torque more then it did on that run. Will has told me to leave my converter (Yank 3000) alone until we see where it is running. I am probably going to get booted, I don't have a roll bar in the car but that too we are researching now. I really expect to see some 10's but at any rate, its turned out better then I expected!! Will really knows his stuff.
